The Bates County Sheriffs Office is accepting applications for a full time dispatcher and a part time dispatcher. Both positions pay $9.23 per hour. You must be able to pass a background check and a drug test. The full time position has health insurance provided plus other benefits. The part time position is for 15 to 30 hours per week and does not include benefits. Both positions may require you to work nights, weekends and holidays. Obituary - Henry McGuire

Funeral services for Henry McGuire will be 2:30 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler, Missouri (660) 679-0009 with Pastor David Owsley officiating. Visitation prior to services from 1:30 – 2:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial to follow services in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions to the National Parkinson’s Foundation. Henry “Hank” or “Mack” Jene McGuire, 86 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on September 30, 2013. He was born July 6, 1927 in Amoret, Missouri, son of Troy and Mona Ellen (Bowman) McGuire.
Henry graduated from Butler High School, and was a 50-year member of the local union IBEW 124. He married Jane Givens in 1948.
He was a Mason and member of the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Missouri; and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a founder of a square-dance club called HalFa Pair Square.
Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; and a sister, Jewell Fahnestock. He is survived by his daughters, Jalayne Miller and husband Cliff of Raytown, Missouri, and Tess McGuire of Peculiar, Missouri; three grandchildren, Christopher Welch of Garden City, Missouri, and Lyra McGuire and Holly Welch, both of Peculiar, Missouri; a brother, Tom McGuire of Butler, Missouri; a sister, Joan Jefferson and husband Robert of Freeman, Missouri; as well as numerous nephews and nieces

Obituary - Mary Louise Williams

Mary Louise Williams, 89, of Belton, Missouri, died September 12, 2013. A memorial service, along with a tribute to Barney Ricketts, Jr., will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2013 at Park Lawn Chapel in Kansas City, Missouri, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mary was born to Frank and Mamie Houchin on November 28, 1923, in Jefferson City, MO. She graduated high school in Jefferson City and married Marvin Zimmerman who was killed in WWII; she then relocated to Kansas City, MO where she married Alvin Williams.
Mary was employed for many years in the Kansas City area as an interior designer and apartment property manager where she met her partner of over 20 years, Barney Ricketts Jr. She then retired and relocated to Sun City, AZ, prior to returning to Kansas City after Mr. Ricketts’ passing. Mary will always be remembered for her helpful, friendly, outgoing personality and a smile for everyone.

Mary is survived by three children, Carolyn Collins (Walt) of Delta, AL; Tom Williams (Pat) of Belton, MO and Cindy Ricketts (John) of Kansas City, KS. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers; 3 sisters; and 2 nieces.

Obituary - Harry "H. R." Robert Pearson

Harry Robert “H. R.” Pearson, III, 85, Kimberling City, Missouri, formerly of Lake Winnebago and Harrisonville, Missouri, died Sunday, September 29, 2013 at his home. A memorial/graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, Missouri, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus, 3044 Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, Suite 200, Branson, MO 65616, St. Peters Episcopal Church, 400 W. Wall Street, Harrisonville, MO 64701 or to the charity of your choice.

H. R. was born February 15, 1928 in Harrisonville, Missouri, the son of Harry Robert and Mary Ruth (Burney) Pearson, Jr. He, like his parents, obtained his schooling in the Harrisonville Schools, graduating with the Class of 1946, having been president of his senior class. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, Missouri University in Columbia, Missouri and University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Junior Chamber of Commerce in Kansas City, Missouri, South Central Business Association, Apartment Owners Association and the House Builders Association in Topeka, Kansas.

H. R. was a communicate of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Harrisonville, Missouri and was the first acolyte to serve there. He was elected to the Vestry at the early age of 21 years old.
Having graduated from high school just at the close of WWII, H. R. enlisted in the U. S. Naval Air Reserve Force, spending one weekend each month receiving his training at the Naval Air Station in Olathe, Kansas. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
In 1955, H. R. and his father formed the Pearson Investment Company, having extensive holdings in Harrisonville, Kansas City, North and Belton, Missouri and Topeka, Kansas. H. R. built the first all electric apartments in Topeka and was invited to the G. E. Company in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was given a plaque for his buildings.

In 1986, due to the declining health of his father, H. R. took over the active management of the Real Estate Association, building many houses and duplexes and apartment buildings in Harrisonville. The office was at 305 West Wall Street, occupying a new building on the site of the home of his great-grandfather, John B. R. Deacon , a pioneer of Harrisonville. H. R. was the 5th generation to live in this house before it was torn down.

H. R. was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Rose Ann, of the home; two step-daughters, Kim Weisbrod and husband, Steven, Ozark, Missouri and Tracy Coats and husband, Wayne, Chillicothe, Ohio and 8 grandchildren.

Obituary - George Ann Fisher

Memorial services for George Ann Fisher will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Dave Owsley officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions to United Methodist Women, Butler Public Library or Charity of Choice.

George Ann Fisher, age 69 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born July 30, 1944 to George William and Joan Hein Kappel in McPherson, Kansas.

George Ann is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Fisher of Butler, Missouri; one son, Robert “Bob” William Fisher of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; granddaughter, Jessica Louise Fisher of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; mother-in-law, Louise Fisher of Butler, Missouri; and three aunts. She was preceded in death by her parents

Between September 1st and 4th, suspect(s) removed the outside air conditioner unit from the property.  Value of the loss is approximately $5,000.00.
