Osage Valley Electric Cooperative: Live Powerline Safety Demonstration

Nearly 60 area emergency personnel watched the live power line safety demonstration hosted by Osage Valley at the Butler office on Monday. Employees of Pike Electric Corporation demonstrated safety standards for electrical hazards that emergency personnel may encounter on the job and explained the power restoration process. The hour long demonstration was complete with arcing power lines and the loud bang of a blown fuse creating a realistic learning environment. 

UPDATE - The Three Missing Siblings From Harrisonville, MO Found Safe In Canada

Authorities say all three Harrisonville siblings reported missing last week have been found safe in Canada.

They were found with their mother, who was taken into custody.

During a 3:30 p.m. press conference with the Cass County Sheriff's Office, they said they were notified about 2:45 p.m. by Calgary, Alberta Canada Police that 11-year-old Tabitha Davis, 14-year-old Jasper Davis, and 15-year-old Jordan Davis, of Harrisonville were found and were currently with Canadian officials in Calgary.

Police there have not released many details, however they said that all children are in good health and cooperating.

Earlier, authorities said Jordan was spotted in Canada with the children's mother, who doesn't have legal custody. The Cass County Sheriff's Office said 44-year-old Sherri Lynn O'Neal, also known as Sherri Lynn Davis, and one child were positively identified on surveillance photos entering a non-profit agency in Calgary, Alberta Canada on Tuesday afternoon. That agency provides assistance for individuals and families in need. The two left shortly after.

At that time, no details were released on the possible whereabouts of the other two children and no one was taken into custody.

Also during the press conference, authorities said the black Mercedes was found earlier in the investigation and had been under constant surveillance in south Kansas City, MO. After receiving information from Canada, investigators believed that the Mercedes had been abandoned at the dealership and was transported to the Cass County Sheriff's Office secure lot Wednesday afternoon.

Cass County sheriff's Maj. Jeff Weber said an endangered person advisory was issued for Tabitha Davis, Jasper and Jordan. The children's father, Jamie Davis, reported them missing Friday after he returned home from work and found they weren't there. He told deputies he believed the children were with their mother.

Jamie Davis told police he didn't think O'Neal posed any danger to the children, though she hadn't had known contact with them for at least three years, Weber said. O'Neal doesn't have a current address and has "been very transient," he said.

Weber said the matter did not meet criteria for an Amber Alert in part because the parents, who are divorced, have had problems with custody arrangements and visitation, and because the father didn't believe the children were in any danger.

"We're unsure what current plans are in place, but it's highly unorthodox for a parent to show up, not notify the other parent and take the children," Weber said.

Calls to the sheriff's office with leads had tapered off since Sunday, he said.

Sheriff's officials said O'Neal was also taken into custody, along with a second adult who had not been identified.

The Cass County Prosecuting Attorney Office filed charges against O'Neal for interference with custody – removed from state or concealed, a Class D felony. Her bond has been set at $30,000.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office is working to coordinate the return of the children and extradition of O'Neal back to the United States.

COLUMBIA, MISSOURI (OCTOBER 7, 2013) - Missouri Cattlemen's Association (MCA), on behalf of the Missouri Beef Industry Council, is offering 15 on-site training seminars for Missouri cattlemen through the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Program. BQA is a national program that provides guidelines for humane and safe beef cattle production. MCA President Chuck Massengill says that by becoming BQA certified, a producer will gain insight of industry practices that will improve herd health and, ultimately, increase profitability.  

 

"Producers are always seeking new ways to make their operation more efficient," says Massengill. "By attending, cattlemen are choosing to learn up-to-date information and management practices that are encouraged by industry professionals."

Through the use of science, research and education, the BQA program has identified production practices producers can implement each day. University of Missouri Extension Veterinary Medicine Specialist Craig Payne will lead the program. Payne says this is a great chance for cattlemen to learn the best management practices.

 

"BQA training is not only beneficial for the producer, but the industry," says Payne. "The sessions give producers tools so they may continue to produce healthy beef, while improving the beef industry as a whole."

Prescription Drug Take Back Saturday October 26, 2013

BATES COUNTY HEALTH CENTER AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TAKING BACK UNWANTED, UNUSED OR EXPIRED DRUGS October 26, 2013

Butler, MO – On October 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Bates County Health Center, local law enforcement and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its seventh opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted drugs.  Bring your medications for disposal to Bates County Health Center at 501 N. Orange St. in Butler.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.  The Health Center is unable to accept unwanted, unused or expired drugs at any time other than the specified event date of October 26, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  If you are unable to bring your unwanted, unused or expired drugs to this event, they may be dropped off at any time in the permanent drug take back box located at the Butler Police Department, 309 N. Fulton in Butler.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Lake area man on the run believed to be dangerous

Morgan County Deputies say Timothy Register was convicted of statutory sodomy, rape, and child molestation in July, and he was set to be sentenced Thursday, Oct. 17. On Sunday, Oct. 13, deputies say Register removed a GPS monitoring bracelet, which was found in Eldon.

After searching his home near Sunrise Beach, investigators found a letter Register apparently wrote, saying he wouldn’t go back to prison. Deputies are now hunting for Register, who they say is dangerous. They’re asking anyone with any information to call the Morgan County Sheriff’s office at (573) 378-5481, or call their local law enforcement agency.

Humansville man wanted for statutory rape, three counts statutory sodomy, child molestation

Bysor, 51, of Humansville on an unclassified felony charge of statutory rape in the first degree, three counts of unclassified felony statutory sodomy in the first degree and class B felony child molestation in the first degree.
