Leads sought in drug store break in- $6,000 in narcotics stolen

Local authorities are looking for leads in a break in at Kreisler Drug store in Adrian last Friday night. Initial reports are that entry was gained by breaking into the front door of the store located at 21 E. Main St. in Adrian.

In what appears to be a highly targeted hit, thieves stole around $6,000 in Hydrocodone, a narcotic painkiller that is considered highly addictive and can have a high street value.

If anyone has information regarding the theft, please contact the Bates County Sheriff's Department at 660-679-3232 or the Adrian Police Department at 660-297-2106.

BUTLER CITY COUNCIL NEWS

In Butler City Council news, Security Bank of Butler got the bid for a

loan to buy a tanker truck for the Fire Department. Payments will be

made from the one-eighth cent Fire Sales Tax that was approved some time

ago. And in line with the Council’s way of saving anywhere it can, it’s been

proposed that the old truck chasses (chassey) be re-used to convert it

into a dump truck.

Another need will also be taken care of. The city will buy a bucket

truck to replace our old one that had to be taken out of service earlier

this year. The old truck had gotten unsafe to be used, and it’s so old

that parts are become difficult, if not impossible, to find. And the

place where the truck was originally bought is out of business.

Also, the Council approved an ordinance for re-zoning 104 Sunset View

Drive from an R-w single family area, to a C-3 highway commercial area.

However, the actual decision for re-zoning will come following the

public hearing on this that is set for the November 5th Council

meeting…seven p.m. on the 2nd floor at Butler City Hall.

And the agreement was approved with the State for block grant funding

to remove 35 houses and three commercial structures here in Butler.

A request from Trent Diehl, Director of Public Works, for funds for

equipment for the Butler Aquatic Center was approved. It will include

such items as a pool vacuum and other Aquatic products.

Most of us don’t realize the complications the City goes through to keep

things humming. For example, few are aware that Butler is one of 35

cities that gets its electrical power from a joint Municipal Electric

Utility Commission call “Iatan 2 (eye-uh-tan two). Of course Butler also has its own

backup ability to fire up in case of needing more than has been agreed two with

that company.

The reason we even mention this, is because a report just in says the

company is handling our needs with no problems.

The Council approved the proposal from B&L Electric to install city

utilities to the upcoming Solar Farm.

And Mayor Don Malan and the City Council are continuing to tour our

community’s facilities. They’ve been to the Aquatic Center, the ball

fields, the Police Department and the Old High School facilities, and

they’ll be continuing other areas as time permits.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Fundraiser Volleyball Tournament

 The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office will host a volleyball tournament to raise funds to purchase Christmas presents that will be distributed to various children in St. Clair County.  The tournament will be held at the Osceola High School on Saturday, November 16, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Teams of six, consisting of three men and three women, are being sought to play and join in the fun raising money to place presents under the trees of various children throughout the county.  The entry fee for each team is $100.  The more teams the merrier and the more that can be done to help the children in the county have a great Christmas.  The public is also invited to attend and view the tournament as well. Admission is free and concessions will be available.  For those who cannot attend or are not volleyball fans, donations are appreciated. The Vernon County Sheriff's Office to house 42 Greene County Inmates

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office has announced that it has entered into a housing agreement with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office in Springfield to house inmates for Greene County. Sheriff Mosher said they had been talking to Greene County over the last month reached an agreement that could bring in more than $1,200 per day to Vernon County. A prisoner transport bus arrived at the Vernon County Jail last Friday morning with 42 inmates from Greene County. Inmates were brought in the bus along with multiple guards from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, but extra staff from the Vernon County Sheriff's Office was also called in. The Sheriff said the contract that was signed states Greene County would pay up to $500,000 for housing inmates.
