Vernon County Sheriff's Office Press Release: High Speed Pursuit Ends In Arrest

A high speed pursuit led to the arrest of a wanted subject early Friday afternoon. Deputy Blakely attempted to make a traffic stop on a black Ford truck that was traveling east on 54 Hwy. The Ford truck was swerving in and out of its lane. After the Deputy attempted to make the traffic stop the truck pulled into the parking lot of the Mr. D’s store on 54 Hwy. The Ford truck then pulled back onto 54 Hwy and took off at a high rate of speed heading west on 54 Hwy. Additional Sheriff’s units responded and the pursuit continued into Bourbon County Kansas where Bourbon County Sheriff’s Deputies joined in the pursuit. The truck turned down side roads and in one case turned around and charged strait towards oncoming Sheriff’s vehicles. One Vernon County Sheriff’s Vehicle was struck in the front and sustained light damage.

The truck tried to lose Sheriff’s Deputies by driving into some corn fields but the 4x4 Sheriff's trucks were able to keep up. The Ford truck got stuck in the mud and the driver jumped from the truck and continued to run on foot. Deputy Blakely soon caught up to the driver and apprehended him. The driver has been identified as 32 year old Raymond Younce JR of Independence Mo. Younce was wanted on a felony firearms warrant along with multiple other warrants form Kansas and Missouri. Younce was listed as “armed and dangerous.” Younce is being held in the Bourbon County jail and will be extradited to Vernon County for charges the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office plans to file early next week for driving while suspended, driving while under the influence, and resisting arrest.

MISSOURI MINIMUM WAGES GOING UP

Starting January 1, 2014 the minimum wage is going up in the state of Missouri. The Missouri Department of Labor announced the minimum wage rate set for 2014 has been established at $7.50.
All businesses are required to pay at minimum, the $7.50 hourly rate, except retail and service businesses whose annual gross sales are less than $500,000. Per state law, the minimum wage rate is calculated once a year and may increase or decrease based on the cost of living as measured by the previous year’s Consumer Price Index. Missouri law does not allow the state’s minimum wage rate to be lower than the federal minimum wage rate.
Compensation for tipped employees must also total at least $7.50 per hour. Employers are required to pay tipped employees at least 50 percent of the minimum wage, or the amount necessary to bring the employee’s total compensation to a minimum of $7.50 per hour.

RICH HILL MULTI-PURPOSE SAFE ROOM

Proposed Rich Hill Safe Room

The Rich Hill School Multi-Purpose Completion Committee has a challenge to raise funds to complete the construction of a tornado safe room and multi-purpose facility for the Rich Hill R-IV School District. The District has received a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a bond approved by voters of the district, and school reserve funds to help construct a dome-shaped tornado safe room. However, additional funds are needed to complete the room as a multipurpose facility that can be used and enjoyed by the approximately 400 students in the Rich Hills Schools.

The Committee feels that completing the safe room as a multipurpose facility will help build pride among Rich Hill’s youth and community. The Committee feels the project will translate into increased participation and enthusiasm for school and school-related activities.

The Multi-Purpose Completion Committee along with the Rich Hill community,  is dedicated to the process of making this happen, but they need the public’s support. The goal of the Committee for this project is one million dollars. The committee is reaching out to businesses, alumni, community members and individuals to meet this goal. The Rich Hill community is clearly excited and eager to see this project succeed.

Recognition Levels for donations have been set as follows: Platinum- above - $50,000; Gold - $25,000 to 49,999; Silver - $10,000 to 24,999; Bronze - $500.00 to $9,999. A December 1,2013 date is set for pledges or donations to be submitted for the project. The anticipated project completion date is November 2014.

A website has been developed to provide information and to give updates on the fundraising progress. The website is www.RichHillSafeRoom.com.
