Vernon County Sheriff's Office Press Release: High Speed Pursuit Ends In Arrest

A high speed pursuit led to the arrest of a wanted subject early Friday afternoon. Deputy Blakely attempted to make a traffic stop on a black Ford truck that was traveling east on 54 Hwy. The Ford truck was swerving in and out of its lane. After the Deputy attempted to make the traffic stop the truck pulled into the parking lot of the Mr. D’s store on 54 Hwy. The Ford truck then pulled back onto 54 Hwy and took off at a high rate of speed heading west on 54 Hwy. Additional Sheriff’s units responded and the pursuit continued into Bourbon County Kansas where Bourbon County Sheriff’s Deputies joined in the pursuit. The truck turned down side roads and in one case turned around and charged strait towards oncoming Sheriff’s vehicles. One Vernon County Sheriff’s Vehicle was struck in the front and sustained light damage.

The truck tried to lose Sheriff’s Deputies by driving into some corn fields but the 4x4 Sheriff's trucks were able to keep up. The Ford truck got stuck in the mud and the driver jumped from the truck and continued to run on foot. Deputy Blakely soon caught up to the driver and apprehended him. The driver has been identified as 32 year old Raymond Younce JR of Independence Mo. Younce was wanted on a felony firearms warrant along with multiple other warrants form Kansas and Missouri. Younce was listed as “armed and dangerous.” Younce is being held in the Bourbon County jail and will be extradited to Vernon County for charges the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office plans to file early next week for driving while suspended, driving while under the influence, and resisting arrest.
