Where: Bates County Route O between Route B and SE 7586 Road east of Rich Hill

When: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3

What: MoDOT crews replacing drain pipes underneath the road



Traffic Impacts: Drivers will have to find an alternate route around the closing. Drivers will be able to get to driveways and other entrances on either side of the closing. However, they will NOT be able to travel through the work zone.

Bad weather could postpone the project.

Weather Update: Mild Weather Followed By Late - Week Bitterly Cold Air


Mild, dry weather will continue today through Tuesday with above normal temperatures. Watch for patchy dense fog this morning. A strong cold front will move through the region Tuesday evening, ushering in a polar airmass that will persist through the weekend. There will be a chance of light snow on Thursday and Thursday night, with minor accumulations possible. Temperatures are not expected to exceed the freezing mark for several days beginning Wednesday night.

Pancakes With Santa

Come have pancakes with the man in red and tell him your wish for Christmas! Or kids of all ages can come, eat, and leave a toy for the Toys for Tots! Just come and enjoy the spirit of Christmas.

Wanted Sex Offender Could Be In Area

 
Kevin Hill is wanted on a Missouri parole violation warrant for statutory sodomy.

Kevin Hill is wanted on a Missouri parole violation warrant for statutory sodomy. The original offense occurred in 2008 in Lawrence County Missouri and involved the sexual assault of a 12-year-old boy.  Hill's last known address was the Kansas City Community Release Center, located at 651 Mulberry St., in Kansas City. 

He absconded from that location in October. His current location is unknown. Kevin Hill is from the Nevada, Missouri area and could possible be back in this area. He is a registered sex offender in Jackson County and has been known to be physically violent and should be considered dangerous.

From The Bates County Sheriff's Office: Fog Advisory


The Bates County Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone who has to be out this evening or early in the morning to travel with caution and allow extra time to reach your destination due to a fog advisory. The visibility is around 20 feet or less at this time. The Nixle System is down at this time but when it's back up and running the Sheriff's Office will be sending out a Nixle text.

Grass Fire North Of Adrian

The Adrian Fire Department along with the Drexel Fire Department is in route to a grass fire which was reportedly caused by a lawn mower that caught on fire. The location of this fire is North of Adrian to AA Highway then West to County Road 8541 then South about a mile past the curves. Bates County Live will update this when and if more information becomes available

Obituary - Harry Jack Turk

Graveside funeral services for Harry Jack Turk will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Berea Cemetery in Ketterman, Vernon County, Missouri. There will be no visitation. Contributions are suggested to the Excelsior Springs Healthcare Foundation. Harry Jack Turk, 84, formerly of Rich Hill, Missouri as well as Houston, Texas passed away November 30, 2013 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.

Jack was born January 17, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Harry B. and Bonnie D. (Neely) Turk. He served his country by entering the Army in 1951 and attained the rank of Corporal before earning an honorary discharge in 1953. Jack was an engineer during his career years and was a graduate of the Finley School of Engineering. He was a member of the Rich Hill post of the American Legion; he enjoyed horseback riding as well as sailing.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Harold Calvin. He is survived by his sister, Patricia L. Calvin; niece Sharon Powell and husband Kent; nephews Dennis Calvin and wife Nancy, Rusty Calvin and wife Lynne, and Terry Calvin; great-nephews Trevor and Jeremy Powell, Tim Calvin, and Skylar Calvin; great-niece Patricia C. Calvin; great-great nephews Austin and Bentley Calvin; and great-great nieces Madison Powell, Elizabeth Calvin, Zowie Blue Friend and Immy Lu Calvin.

On Tuesday, Nov 26, the Butler Bears junior high wrestling team traveled to the Adrian middle school meet. The Bears wrestled well in the event. The Bears were 21-9 overall in matches wrestled. Schools competing at the event included Adrian, Clinton, Harrisonville, and Warsaw. The next competition for the Bears is the Ray-Pec middle school meet on Monday, December 2.
