On
November 27, 2013 at 11:03 p.m., Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies
were dispatched to the Kansas/Missouri state line on US 160 Hwy in
reference to a vehicle pursuit in which Barton County, MO Sheriff’s
Office was involved. Reports from Barton County Sheriff indicated the
driver of the fleeing vehicle had possibly threatened someone with a
handgun.
Barton County Sheriff’s deputies pursued the vehicle
into Kansas. The driver continued to flee before losing control of the
vehicle in the area of 570 Ave and 250 St, where he fled on foot. After
a brief search, the suspect was located and taken into custody by the
Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was identified as James
Donald Russian, 56 of Pittsburg.
While an inventory of
Russian’s vehicle was being conducted, deputies discovered drugs and
drug paraphernalia, which, along with information from Barton County
Sheriff’s Office, led to the issuance of a search warrant on Russian’s
residence at 503 W. Kansas Apt #2, Pittsburg.
The search
yielded numerous packages of marijuana; methamphetamine; ingredients
commonly used in the production of methamphetamine; a handgun and over
$23,000 in cash.

Russian was held on $86,000 bond through Kansas. It is unknown what charges Russian faces through Missouri.
Bates County Live was contacted by the Butler Elementary School regarding a small kitten that has been hanging around the school today. The kitten is very tame and seems to be someones pet. If this is your kitten please come to the Butler Elementary office and pick up your cat.
The Rich Hill Fire Department along with assistance from The Butler Fire Department is on scene of a trailer house fire in Rich Hill. The location of this fire is at 105 West Park Street. Unknown at this time if anyone was in the residence when the fire started. The cause of the fire in undetermined at this time. Bates County Live will update this when and if more information becomes available.

Robert Carl “Bob” Hagberg, age 61 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday,
November 30, 2013 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola, Kansas. He
was born September 30, 1952 to Emil Carl and Anna Roggensack Hagberg in
Rockford, Illinois.
Bob is survived by his wife, Denise Hagberg of Butler, Missouri; one
son, Joshua Carl Hagberg of Butler, Missouri; one daughter, Heather
Annajean Morris and husband Tyler of Butler, Missouri; one sister,
Gloria North of Loves Park, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Pat Hagberg of
Rockford, Illinois; one grandson, Aiden Morris; and several nephews and
nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul
and Lester; one sister, Dorothy Haight; and an infant stillborn sibling.
Yoga class will be starting back up on Tuesday December 10th. Class are
on Tuesday mornings at 8:00am and Thursday evening at 5:30pm, Yoga
classes are included in Get Fit Gym membership, non-member fees are
$5.00 per class. Hope to see everyone in class.
The Butler Fire Department is in route to Rich Hill to assist the Rich Hill Fire Department on a structure fire. Unknown what kind of structure is on fire but the location is 105 West Park Street. Bates County Live will Update this when more information becomes available.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports eight
people died during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday counting
period--from 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013, through 11:59 p.m.
Sunday, December 1, 2013. Troopers investigated 299 traffic crashes,
which included 140 injuries. In addition, troopers arrested 139 people
for driving while intoxicated. The Highway Patrol investigated seven of
the fatalities. The St. Louis Police Department investigated the
remaining fatality. [During the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday, troopers
investigated 350 traffic crashes, which included 140 injuries. There
were six fatalities over the 2012 Thanksgiving weekend. Troopers
arrested 140 people for driving while intoxicated that same weekend in
2012.]
Five of the fatalities occurred in the Troop F, Jefferson City, MO,
area. One fatality occurred in each of the following areas: Troop C,
Weldon Spring, MO, Troop G, Willow Springs, MO, and Troop I, Rolla, MO.
One fatality occurred on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 2013.
Angela S. Tate, 52, of St. Robert, MO, died when the vehicle she was
driving traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a utility
pole. The vehicle then rolled onto the driver's side and struck a second
utility pole. The crash occurred on Missouri Highway 28, north of St.
Robert, in Pulaski County. Pulaski County Coroner Mike Hartness
pronounced Tate dead at the scene. Tate was wearing a seat belt at the
time of the crash.
Three fatalities occurred on Friday, November 29, 2013. Victoria M.
Singleton, 22, of Mexico, MO, died when the vehicle in which she was a
passenger crossed the center line and struck a second vehicle head-on.
The crash occurred on Missouri Highway 124 north of Old Missouri Highway
124 in Boone County. The driver of the vehicle in which Singleton was a
passenger sustained serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle that
was struck, Timmy R. Bowne, 46, of Centralia, MO, died in the crash.
Boone County Medical Examiner Dori Burke pronounced both Singleton and
Bowne dead at the scene of the crash. Singleton and the driver of that
vehicle were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash; Bowne was
not.
Joseph L. Mayo, 57, of Hartville, MO, died after the motorcycle he was
driving struck a vehicle head-on. Mayo was attempting to pass a third
vehicle when the crash occurred. The crash occurred on Missouri Highway
38 east of Hartville, MO, in Wright County. Dr. Causa at Mercy Hospital
in Springfield, MO, pronounced Mayo dead at the hospital. The driver of
the vehicle Mayo's motorcycle struck was not injured in the crash. Mayo
was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash; the driver of the other
vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
Four people died in traffic crashes on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
Ashley M. Burns, 29, of Linn Creek, MO, Kenneth D. Crockett, 51, of
Eldon, MO, and Tammy J. Luttrell, 55, of Iberia, MO, died in a traffic
crash on Missouri Highway 42 west of Hawken Cemetery Road in Miller
County. The crash occurred when the vehicle Burns was driving crossed
the center of the roadway and struck the vehicle Crockett was driving
head-on. Luttrell was a passenger in Crockett's vehicle. Miller County
Coroner Rick Callahan pronounced all three people dead at the scene.
Burns, Crockett, and Luttrell were not wearing seat belts at the time of
the crash.
Wilson Brown Jr., 38, of St. Louis County, MO, died in a traffic crash
at Page and Pendleton streets in St. Louis, MO. The St. Louis Police
Department investigated the traffic crash.
There were no boating incidents, boating while intoxicated arrests, or
drownings reported during the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday counting period.
