Zion Lutheran School holds Kindergarten Roundup - April 9



Play, Learn, and Grow with Us in our full day kindergarten program! Zion Lutheran School   in Prairie City will hold it's Kindergarten Roundup on Wednesday, April 9 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Zion is located south of Hwy B just off O Hwy at 10135 SE County Road 9526.



Your child must be 5 before September 1. Please bring the following with you: child's birth certificate, immunization records, and social security card.



In addition to kindergarten, Zion offers a quality Christian education for students in grades 1 - 8 of all faith backgrounds.

Butler Library News


NASA Activity day Sat. April 5th at the Butler High School gym lobby.  Presentation starts at 10:00 and the hands-on activities 11:00-2:00. This is a FREE event and there will be door prizes. That evening 7:30-10:00 at the Butler Public Library will be the STAR PARTY. 



The Astronomical Society of Kansas City will be bringing their high powered telescopes to help us view the night sky. PLEASE bring lawn chairs and or a blanket. Please come and bring a friend.

Weather Update: Severe Weather Possible This Morning and Thursday

Thunderstorms have developed across eastern Kansas this morning and will move northeastward into extreme eastern Kansas and west central Missouri including the KC Metro area. These storms are expected to move into the area around 4AM and will have the potential to produce marginally severe hail. The severe potential with these storms will last until mid-morning when a low level jet weakens althoug...h showers and thunderstorm may continue across northern Missouri through the morning hours. Much of the afternoon should remain dry. Highs today across the area will experience a large range of temperatures due to a warm front moving north into the area. High will range from the mid 40s across northern Missouri which will be north of a warm front to near 70 across east central Kansas and central Missouri. Tonight another round of thunderstorms are expected to develop across southeastern Kansas. These storms are then expected to move northeast into the area. These storms will bring another round of potential severe weather with large hail, damaging winds, flash flooding, and even an isolated tornado possible.

Boil Water Order District # 7

A boil water order has been issued for the Pappinville and Happy Hill area. Those living in water district number 7 are asked to boil all drinking water, empty all ice cube Trays and use 1 tablespoon of Clorox to  all dish washing water. 

The boil water order will be in effect for 3 days. Water will be tested and we will inform you when the order is lifted for
Water District number 7.

Obituary - Wava Halcomb

Retired Vernon County clerk Wava Halcomb, Nevada, passed away Monday at her home at the age of 81. Arrangements are under direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and a graveside service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the Deerfield Cemetery with the Reverend Hubert Fox officiating. Burial is to follow in the Deerfield Cemetery. Memorials to the Parkinson's Foundation are suggested and can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home. Friends may call until one-thirty Thursday afternoon at the funeral home, 301 S. Washington Street, Nevada.
