On 4/4/14, the Bates County Sheriff’s Office was notified that
Adrian Police Department was attempting to stop a vehicle that was failing to
yield. The vehicle left the city limits
of Adrian and traveled south on I49. The
pursuit continued south on I49 at speeds of 65 miles an hour. The Bates County Sheriff’s Office picked up
the pursuit just south of Passaic when the Adrian Police Department terminated
their pursuit. Just north of the West 52

highway almost striking a responding patrol vehicle. The suspect vehicle left the southbound lane
of I49, crossed the median and began to travel northbound on I49.
The shortly after traveling northbound the suspect vehicle
traveled off the east side of I49 and came to rest in the ditch. The suspect was taken into custody and
transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office. A K9 search of the vehicle revealed 2
methamphetamine pipes. As the suspect
was being transported he advised the deputy that he had a container with
methamphetamine in the crack of his butt.
Once at the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy recovered the container
containing a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamines. The suspect originally had permission to have
the vehicle from the owner but had failed to return it for several days. An entry for failure to return the vehicle
was made in the statewide computer system.
