April Enforcement News Release‏

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer Troop A, Lee's Summit, announces DWI checkpoints will be conducted in the Troop A area during the month of April.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with the Kansas City [MO] Police Department, will conduct a DWI checkpoint in Jackson County between now and the end of April.  There will also be a DWI checkpoint conducted in Pettis County sometime during the month of April.  These operations are an effort by law enforcement agencies to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri's highways.  The checkpoints will consist of officers stopping drivers at a set location and testing those who have been drinking.

A sobering fact is that impaired driving contributed to approximately 30 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes.  In 2013, 236 people were killed and 2,969 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver.  That’s why the Missouri State Highway Patrol will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving throughout the year.

Captain Powell stated, "Impaired driving is not just a law enforcement problem.  It is a community problem.  We urge all citizens to report any driver they observe operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner.” The public can contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol toll-free at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on their cellular phone.

In support of “The Drive To Zero Highway Deaths,” the Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Thursday evening the Butler Bears traveled to Adrian to compete in the Adrian Invitational Track Meet. The meet was delayed an hour due to the threat of impending weather so what started out as a sunny warm evening at 5:00 pm quickly turned into another chilly, windy track meet.

The Butler Bears had another excellent showing that night! The excellent effort from all of the Boys earned our team a 4th place finish out of 14 teams!

Here are the top 8 place finishers:

200M Dash - Austin Castandea - 3rd place

400M Dash- Austin Castandea- 2nd place
                            Kyle Todd - 3rd place

Our team is working hard and there are a lot of athletes contributing to team points. This was the highest the Butler Boys have placed since I have started here. We do not plan on stopping and hope to bring home a 1st place overall team standing. Great job to these athletes! We travel to Cass Midway on Tuesday.

Flash Fire at Tracker Boats In Clinton

On Friday, April 4, 11:54 a.m., the Clinton Fire Department responded to Tracker Marine, 1275 Golden Dr., on a report of a fire in the building. Upon arrival and entry into the building firefighters found that the fire was out with very little to no smoke in the building. During investigation, fire officials learned that two Tracker employees had been working in a boat and injured at the time of the fire. One of the employees was reportedly spreading adhesive for carpeting while the other was working on a pump in the rear of the boat using a battery operated drill.

When the drill was put into use, an electrical arc in the drill ignited the fumes from the adhesive causing a flash fire. Both men were transported to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital where it was determined that they had both received first and second degree burns. They were both later transported by Life Flight to KU Medical.
