Obituary - Judy A Hood

Judy A. Hood, Rich Hill, passed away today at Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler, at the age of 66. Arrangements are under direction of Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, and services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill.

Obituary - Carolyn June Yoss

Carolyn June Yoss, 75, Butler, Missouri, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Adrian United Methodist Church in Adrian, Missouri with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City, Missouri.  Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4 at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Carolyn Yoss Music Education Endowment.  (A complete obituary will be posted when available).

Graveside funeral services for Joyce Sickman will be 12:30 PM Saturday, May 3, 2014 in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Montrose, Missouri with Father Matt Rotert officiating. Faye Joyce Sickman, 81 of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away April 29, 2014 at St. Mary Manor, Blue Springs, Missouri. She was born April 3, 1933 in Herington, Kansas, daughter of Walter and LaVeta (Hankerson) Brown.
Joyce was united in marriage to Kenneth Sickman on December 10, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2012. Joyce retired from the Kansas City, Missouri school district after more than 20 years as a school secretary. Following retirement, she and Kenneth moved to the farm, where Joyce enjoyed working with Kenneth and raising their cattle. In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed spending time with friends, particularly fishing at the lake. In later years, she became an avid Bridge and Bingo player, and looked forward to her excursions with her friend, Jodi, when they would visit the hairdresser, have lunch together, and head for the Bingo hall. Joyce loved these weekly outings.
Joyce never missed her favorite TV shows to include “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price is Right,” “The Steve Harvey Show,” “The Young and the Restless,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and her husband, Kenneth. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Friend of Jefferson City, Missouri; son Kevin Sickman of Grain Valley, Missouri; nephew Jerry Foster and wife Janice of Paducah, Kentucky; and five grandchildren.

The Butler Bears' Missouri Future Problem Solvers received a 3rd place trophy at State Competition this month!  They are given futuristic problems throughout the year and must use their research and analytical skills to solve those problems. 
The Butler Bears' Scholar Bowl Team won the District Championship for the second year in a row!!!  Now it is on to Sectionals, and if they are victorious, then the State Competition.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Appleton City Hit Hard With Burglaries


On Tuesday, April 29, St. Clair County deputies investigated multiple burglaries that occurred overnight in Appleton City.

Dawnde Robbins and Robert McIntosh, reported a burglary at The Blue Inn, 117 West Fourth Street. Two cash registers and doors to the establishment were reported damaged. An estimated $6 was also reported missing.

Arthur Logan, Shelter Insurance, 129B West Fourth Street, reported $4 was missing from a cash box in his business. Damage was also reported to a door of the business.

Jeff Cross, Zink Motors, 200 East Fourth Street, reported the  parts building was broken into and $11 was stolen.

Jay Knowles, AC Auto and Tractor Supply (NAPA), 116 East  Fourth Street., reported a punch and $8.25 in quarters was missing from the store..

The information related to the burglaries was turned over to the Appleton City Police Department for their investigation.

Obituary - John E. “Johnny” Oliphant,

John E. “Johnny” Oliphant, 74, formerly of Rich Hill, Missouri, died February 15, 2012 in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was born November 28, 1937 in Hamilton, Missouri, son of John Austin and Millie Martha (Clark) Oliphant. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his step-father, Truman B. Pickering. He is survived by his brother, George Pickering and wife Judy of Lenexa, KS; three nieces: Sharon Kreiling and husband Phil of Lenexa, KS; Susan Martin and husband Dennis of Atchison, KS; and Angela Bonsignore and husband Paul of Lenexa, KS. He also leaves behind four great-nieces, and four great-nephews.

National Day Of Prayer Tomorrow

national dayThe 57th National Day of Prayer will be held on Thursday, May 1st.
Come and joined with others to pray for our nation from 11am – 12pm at the Butler Courthouse Gazebo.  
There will be music and Bible reading from 10:30 – 11:00.
