Obituary - Wesley "WES" Eldon Cantwell

Funeral services for Wesley "WES" Eldon Cantwell, 92 of Butler will be 2:00 pm, Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler.  Visitation will be immediately prior to services from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Monday, May 5 at the Schowengerdt Chapel.  Burial in the Littell Cemetery near Pleasanton, Kansas. Contribution may be given to the Butler First Baptist Church.

Wes was born May 24, 1921 in Pleasanton, Kansas the son of Edison Ham Cantwell and Gertrude E. Keller Cantwell.  He died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Saint Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.  Wes was preceded in death by his wife Mary "SIS" Cantwell on October 31, 2013.  Wes is survived by one daughhter, Nancy Kay Risso and husband Andy of Spring Hill, KS;  five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Weather Update: Above Normal Day

 It's going to be a rather warm day out there, especially for folks south of the Missouri River as a warm front lifts into the region. This frontal boundary will wallow around Kansas and Missouri through the middle of the coming work week, keeping above normal temperatures in place across the region through Wednesday. Next chance for rain in the region will arrive late Wednesday night, with thunderstorms likely by Thursday.

Obituary - John Huse McCoun

75-year-old John Huse McCoun, Sheldon, passed away Thursday, May 1, at Moore-Few Care Center. Arrangements are under direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill. The family receives friends between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home and memorials to Heartland Hospice are suggested and can be made in care of the funeral home.

One Vehicle accident in Adrian

The Adrian Police Department, Adrian Fire Department and Bates County EMS is all on the scene of a 1 vehicle accident in Adrian. The location of this accident is right in front of Adrian Manor Nursing Home on the West side of Adrian. The injuries are not believed to be serious just some cuts and bruises. Bates County Live will update this when and if more information becomes available.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Arrest Report 5/2/14

• On 5/2/14 around 9:25pm The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 42 year old Tammy D. Hocker of Garden City, Missouri. She was arrested on 1.)Possession of a controlled substance (Meth) 2.) Possession of Marijuana 3.) Unlawful use of Drug Paraphernalia. She was processed and later released.

• On 5/2/14 around 10:45pm The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 21 year old Vincent L. Barker 21 years old of Gladstone, Missouri. He was arrested on 1.) Possession of a controlled substance (Meth) 2.) Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Bates County Jail and later released.

Kenneth Allen Hintz, 63, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, formerly of Harrisonville, died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at St. Luke's East in Lee's Summit. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Monday, May 5, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville, Missouri. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00pm Monday at the church. ANNETTE WARREN is recognized as the Bates County Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for May, 2014. Annette has been employed in the Housekeeping Department since August, 1995. Annette has a friendly personality and strives to have a positive outlook.  She is very honest and dependable.  You can always count on her.  Whenever we have a problem with short staffing, she always responds, “We will get it done, we always do.” Annette has a great attitude. Her hard work, dependability and workmanship are an asset to the hospital.
