Weather Update: Where did Spring Go

OK, who turned the calendar to late June? It's short sleeve shirt and shorts weather. Can you believe it was in the 50s just four days ago?If you haven't already done so break out the sun screen and make sure you grab some water if you're working outdoors over the next few days. It's gonna get a bit toasty. Expect 80s south of the Missouri River today and then everyone is in the 80s Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rain holds off till late Wednesday night and even that is not a slam dunk. Our lawns and gardens will likely get a drink on Thursday. Lots can change between now and then but seeing hints that some of the storms on Thursday could be severe. We'll keep you posted as we get closer to that time. Till then pass me the SPF-80 and how about some sweet tea.

Do you prefer this heat or would you rather bundle up like last Thursday?

HENRY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE: DRUG ARRESTS

An Arrest Warrant for Drug Offenses Leads to Additional Arrests on New Drug Offenses

William L. Burks II

Virginia O’Banion

According to Sheriff Kent Oberkrom, shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 30th, Cpl. Aaron Brown and Deputy Antonio Thurman responded to an address in the 100 block of South Orchard, Clinton, to attempt to serve a Henry County felony arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance.  Upon deputies’ arrival, they approached the front door and immediately detected the odor of marijuana emanating from around the residence.

A female subject then attempted to leave the residence and was detained by deputies.  Cpl. Brown knocked on the door and a short time later, was met at the front door by the resident of the house who had the outstanding arrest warrant.  The resident was taken into custody by Cpl. Brown for the outstanding warrant.  It was also discovered that the female subject that attempted to depart the residence upon the deputies’ arrival had an outstanding arrest warrant and was also taken into custody.

Deputies requested consent to search the residence, which was granted by the resident.  The initial search of the residence led to the discovery of numerous other persons inside.  Assistance was requested from the Clinton Police Department and Sgt. Chad Nepple, Patrolmen Nathan Bettencourt and John Scott, along with K-9 Junior, responded to assist.

The subsequent search of the residence led to the discovery of numerous items of drug paraphernalia and contraband, along with digital scales with a calculator.  Patrolman Scott and K-9 Junior conducted an additional search of the residence, with several K-9 responses being given.  Searching these areas led to the discovery of approximately 70 small, ziplock baggies, some of which contained a white, crystallized substance that appeared to be methamphetamine.  Other baggies contained residue with the same white, crystallized substance.

A small refrigerator was located that had a padlock and hasp installed on the door.  The key to the lock was obtained and upon opening the refrigerator, a bag containing what appeared to be methamphetamine, two bags that contained what appeared to be marijuana, as well as approximately 80 small, ziplock baggies, numerous items of paraphernalia used for the ingestion of both of these substances, along with $300 in cash was discovered within.

Arrested on 24-hour investigative holds for the felony charges of possession with the intent to distribute the controlled substances of methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia for the ingestion of methamphetamine and marijuana was William L. Burks II, age 56, of Clinton.

Also arrested on 24-hour investigative holds for the misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as a misdemeanor Clinton Municipal warrant for improper registration was Virginia O’Banion, age 33, of Clinton.

“These arrests are a prime example of what deputies may encounter any time that they respond to a residence to conduct investigations or attempt warrant services.  Both deputies put forth an extra effort in this case, which resulted in additional criminal charges.  Along with the assistance of the Clinton PD officers, this is also a great example of a cooperative effort amongst local law enforcement agencies which benefits our communities”, Sheriff Oberkrom stated.
