Weather Update: Strong - Severe Storms Possible This Weekend
Get out and enjoy today's weather if you can... severe weather is possible this weekend. Saturday will bring a low chance of very isolated storms, but if any storms form, they have a good probability of becoming severe. More widespread severe weather is expected on Sunday, and multiple rounds of storms are possible. The probability of storms firing on Saturday is still uncertain, and timing is uncertain for Sunday, so don't change your plans yet -- just have a severe weather plan in place that includes a way of checking the radar/weather and receiving warnings, especially if you have outdoor activities scheduled.

MSHP News Release - Truck Check Results
Captain Robert
L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the results
of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) truck check, which was
conducted from May 7 through May 9, 2014, in Cass, Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties.
This operation was conducted by commercial vehicle enforcement troopers,
commercial vehicle officers, and commercial vehicle inspectors from Troops A,
B, C, D, F, and H. The operation was a joint effort with officers from the
Kansas City Police Department’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
The goal of
the operation was to remove unsafe commercial vehicles and unqualified or
impaired drivers from Missouri roadways. Officers set up numerous checkpoints
and stopped commercial motor vehicles to conduct random driver and vehicle
safety inspections. During the three-day operation, officers performed 446
inspections with 851 violations discovered. There were 28 drivers and 68 motor
vehicles placed out-of-service. In addition, officers issued 155 citations and
made two misdemeanor warrant arrests, two felony warrant arrests, one
misdemeanor drug arrest, and one felony drug arrest.
Captain Powell
stated, “The truck checks are part of the continuing effort by the Missouri
State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies to remove unsafe
commercial motor vehicles and unqualified or impaired drivers from Missouri
roadways.”
In
support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages
motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by
making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators
should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
