Police Pursuit In Adrian

Around 6 pm this evening the Adrian Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle that was reportedly C&I Driving ( Careless And Imprudent Driving) on 18 Highway East out of Adrian.

The vehicle failed to yield for the officer and after a short pursuit the Adrian officer called the chase off with the vehicle continuing on 18 Highway East at a high rate of speed and all over the road. Bates County Sheriffs Deputies were advised and are searching the area for this vehicle at this time.

Bates County Live will update this when and if more information becomes available.

Obituary - Julia “Josephine” Mathews

Julia “Josephine” Mathews, 92, Independence, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Carmel Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Independence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Glenwild Cemetery in Cleveland, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1001 E. 101st Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64131.

Josephine was born December 13, 1921 in Somerset, Kansas, the daughter of James Leary and Julia (Fischell) Morgan. She attended West Line School and was a lifelong resident of West Line, Missouri. Her dad taught her to play the harmonica at an early age and she played it the rest of her life. She married William “Burton” Mathews on August 25, 1937 in Butler, Missouri. Josephine was baptized on September 19, 1965 at the West Line Christian Church. She had worked for F. W. Woolworth’s at Truman Corners in Grandview, Missouri, for many years.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jack Morgan, one sister, Eleanor Vohs, a son-in-law, George Ruyle and her husband, Burton, on August 16, 1978. She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Ruyle, Grain Valley, Missouri and Marilyn Zimmerman (Gary), Salt Lake City, Utah; 4 grandchildren, Dawn Creswell, Rhonda Ivey, Shane Lueker and Stacy Luekcer, and 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Henry County Sheriffs Office: Looking for stolen vehicle

The Henry County Sheriffs Office is on the look out for a stolen 2000 Pontiac Grand AM silver in color. The vehicle was stolen in the past 2 days from the city of Calhoun. The vehicle doesn't have any license plates on it. If you see this vehicle please call the Henry County Sheriffs Office 660-885-5587.

Butler Fire Department: Aerial Rescue Training



On June 2, the Butler Fire Department performed aerial rescue training at the Butler Water Treatment facility. The training included using the ladder truck to removing simulated victims from the top of the water tanks.

Nevada Police Department: 17 year old arrested for burglary

Nevada police officers report the arrest of a 17-year-old man as a suspect in the alleged burglary of a home in the 700 block of E. Lee Street a week ago. Chief Graham Burnley says the the property owner told officers a door of the home was kicked in and the home entered unlawfully Memorial Day. A witness told officers he knew the suspect was known to him as Anthony and fled the home when the witness shouted at him.

The identification included witnesses identifying the suspect from a photo lineup that led to the arrest of the suspect near Washington and Hickory and police identified him as Anthony D. Gottfried. A felony count alleging second-degree burglary was filed against Gottfried and Chief Burnley says he remains in custody at the Vernon County jail in lieu of a $10,000.00 bond, cash or surety.

The Hume Alumni was held on May 24 with lots of renewing old friendships, wonderful food and a beautiful evening.

On Saturday, June 21, 2014 there will be “A Flair for the Square” 1st annual 5K run/walk and a freewill donation pancake feed. The registration starts at 7:00 a.m. with the 5K starting at 8:00 a.m. There will be a kiddie dash at 9:00 a.m. You can enjoy pancakes from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. This is being held to make improvements in the Hume Park for all to enjoy. If you would like to sponsor the T-shirts you name or business will be listed on the back of the T-shirt, just call Cliff Yarick at the Security Bank in Hume by June 6. You may also pick up your registration forms at the bank in Hume.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Woman Arrested on Johnson County Warrant

On June 2, Julia Mitchell, 52, Collins, was arrested in St. Clair County on a Johnson County felony warrant for failing to appear in court on a class C felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. The charge stems from an incident in June 2012. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.
