Resurfacing of I-49 in Bates/Cass Counties Scheduled to Start Week of June 16‏

Bates/Cass County - Drivers can expect some minor delays when resurfacing of a 26 mile stretch of I-49 begins the week of June 16, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contractor crews will resurface both north- and south-bound lanes of I-49 between Cass County Routes A/B at Archie and Bates County Routes A/B at Rich Hill. Motorists can expect one lane at a time to be closed during the project resulting in limited delays. Work will be done primarily during daytime hours, but some night work is possible.
Message boards and signs will alert drivers to the presence of work zones.
The project is expected to be completed by November 2014.
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

Construction Cost: $11.3 million
Completion Date: November 1, 214

Zion Lutheran School: New Student Scholarships

New Student Scholarships are available at Zion Lutheran School in Prairie City (1 mile southeast of the intersection of O and B Highways) for the first 10 new students to take advantage of this opportunity. Zion serves students in Full Day Kindergarten through Grade 8. These scholarships are only available to those who are not currently enrolled and are for the first year at our day school. Max Motors car show rescheduled for the 21st of June

Weather concerns have prompted yet another change tomorrow- the car show featuring vintage Thunderbirds has been postponed until Saturday June 21st. The original starting time of 10 a.m. will remain the same. Please help get the word out!

Relay for Life event location moved due to incoming weather

The 17th annual Relay for Life event originally slated to be held on the Butler square will now be held in the former Walmart/Wilson Tire building on West 52 highway in Butler. Don't forget to bring your lawn chairs.

The schedule of events for the day will remain the same; however some other minor modifications may need to be made to accommodate the events that will now be held inside the building.

Bates County Memorial Hospital: Candace Sutton Retires

After 46 years of dedicated service to Bates County Memorial Hospital, Candace Sutton retires as an Accounting Clerk in the Finance Department. Candace has been a mainstay in the hospital since 1968.  She has been a devoted and dependable employee throughout the years.   Candace has seen many changes at BCMH each time gaining more knowledge that she is able to pass on to new staff.  Her presence will be missed. At a retirement party held on May 30, 2014, Mr. Ed Hannon, hospital CEO, presented Candace with a beautiful mantel pendulum clock in recognition of her 46 years of service.  Her family was present to celebrate this special occasion.  The hospital wishes Candace much happiness and enjoyment as she begins to enjoy her time away from work.

Weekend weather less than desirable...

The first weekend of June holds a full schedule of events- Relay for Life, a car show at Max Motors, a fishing tournament and more. However, the forecast for Saturday promises rain and lots of it:

Today - 30% chance of storms with a high of 83.

Tonight - 60% chance of more rain, low of 67.

Saturday - 80% chance of thunderstorms and a high of 79.

Sunday - Rain tapers off, high of 76.
