Hit and Run in Walmart Parking Lot

The Butler Police Department is taking a report of a 2 vehicle hit and run accident in the Walmart parking lot. The vehicle that took off is a Burgundy 2010 Ford that is registered to a address in Amsterdam, Missouri. 

The Bates County Sheriffs office is in route to the residence in Amsterdam at this time to make contact with the owner of the truck. Bates County Live will update this when and if more information becomes available.

Obituary - Raymond “Ray” Lewis Chapman


Raymond “Ray” Lewis Chapman, 84, Adrian, Missouri, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Adrian Manor in Adrian, Missouri. A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:30 on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice. 

Ray was born October 15, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Raymond H. and Lillian G. (Anderson) Chapman. He worked for the IBEW all over the nation until his retirement. Ray was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Topeka, Kansas. 

On August 22, 1975 he was joined in marriage to Jean Frazier Brown in Adrian, Missouri. For many years they lived in Climax Spring, Missouri before moving to Adrian. 

Ray is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; son, Mike Chapman and his wife, Jo Ann of Backus, Minnesota; daughter, Carol Bauer and her husband of Minnesota; daughter, Tauni Rosenau and her husband, Larry of Hazen, North Dakota; son, Todd Chapman and his wife, Patty of Princeton, Minnesota; five step-daughters and one stepson and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Weather Update: Scattered Showers and Storms

The chances for severe storms this afternoon have decreased but we still can't rule out an isolated damaging wind gust. Otherwise, heavy downpours are likely with these storms which may lead to an isolated flooding threat. The individual storms are moving to the northeast with additional development possible at any given location this afternoon and this evening.

Obituary - Evelyn Faye Grimes

Funeral services for Evelyn Grimes will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Wayside Waifs. 

Evelyn Faye Grimes, age 83 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born May 4, 1931 to Buenos and Olive Mae Jennings Ayres in Worland, Missouri. 

Evelyn is survived by one son, Robert Duane Grimes of Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Lynn Rogers and husband Greg of Butler, Missouri; five grandchildren, Chris Wimsatt, Justin Wimsatt and wife Diane, Jonathan Grimes, Micah Grimes and Tamera Grimes; and ten great-grandchildren, Kireston, Kamiron, Kerigan, Kendal and Kooper Wimsatt and Blaine, Paige, Johnny, Cash and Jasmine Grimes. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in May of 2012; one brother, J. R. Ayres and one sister, Wava Smith.

Summer Camp is starting in July of 2014! There will be more information posted on this page as the date gets closer. Get excited!

Children who are entering grades 1st through 6th are invited to come be a part of the first summer of Summer Camp. Throughout the month of July, kids who are a part of the day camp will get to experience so many fun and exciting things: park days, water activities, games, arts and crafts, and all kinds of adventures in between. A summer of boredom will not be on the agenda this year!

This day camp will start at 7:00 am and go until 5:30 pm for all five weeks of July. (Monday, June 30th – Friday, August 1st).

Summer camp will be held at the Ohio Street United Methodist Church. The church has graciously offered to allow us to utilize the church which includes a ton of room inside and out to run and play, learn and grow.

Registration will begin Monday, June 2nd at the Ohio Street United Methodist Church. The deadline for registration forms and payment is the Wednesday before camp starts, Wed, June 25th. However, there are only 15 spots available per group (45 total). To insure your spot, turn in your form ASAP. If you wish to attend only certain weeks of camp you simply have to register and pay on the Wednesday before that week but you can reserve your spot starting June 2nd. There is also the opportunity to pay for the entire summer up front for 460 dollars, a discount of 20 dollars. Butler Saddle Club Rodeo Dance Saturday In Butler


The Butler Saddle Club will be hosting a Rodeo Dance June 21,2014 in the Youth Building at the Butler Fair Grounds.

Local band Wasteland will be preforming from 9pm until 1am, The admission is $5 per person. Everyone is welcomed to attend this event.

Endangered Person Advisory Cancelled


This alert is canceled.  The individual was located at 10:30 a.m. at Riverfront Park by a citizen, in Leavenworth, KS.  She was initially unresponsive, the Leavenworth Police Department responded to the scene along with EMS.  She was transported to Cushing Memorial Hospital, in Leavenworth, KS.  She is now responsive and has been reunited with her family members.  The investigation is continuing by the Patrol surrounding the sequence of events.
