Missouri State Highway Patrol Arrest Report 6/26/24

• On 6/26/14 around 2:22pm The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 42 year old Vearl C. Strutton of Raytown, Missouri after a short chase. He was charged with 1.) Felony Resisting Arrest 2.) Felony possession of a controlled substance 3.) Felony tampering with evidence 4.) No drivers license 5.) Exceeding posted speed limit. He was taken to Cass County Medical Center and when he is cleared will be placed on a 24 hour investigative hold.

Weather Update: Storms In The Weekend Forecast

It'll be another humid day this afternoon with showers and thunderstorms possible. The greatest chances will be across northern Missouri, north of Highway 36. No severe storms are expected at this time. Thunderstorm chances will persist through the weekend with the best chances coming Saturday. A few of these storms could be strong to potentially severe.

Funeral services for George Vowels will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at the Ohio Street United Methodist Church in Butler. Visitation will be prior to services from 2-3 p.m. at Methodist Church. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions to Ohio Street United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association. Services under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler.

George Albert Vowels, age 83 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at his home in Butler. He was born September 6, 1930 to Albert and Gladys Velma Miller Vowels in Wyatt, Missouri.

George is survived by his wife, Margie Vowels of Butler, Missouri; one son, Stephen Vowels and wife Patti of Butler, Missouri; one daughter, Julie Bitner and husband Scott of Butler, Missouri; one half-sister, Judy Lunceford of San Diego, California; three grandchildren, Mandy Brockman and husband Dave, Krystal Vowels and Laura Vowels; and five great-grandchildren, Eli, Gavin, Keera, Shannasie and Dominick. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Matt Bitner; one brother, Marshall Vowels; and one sister, Mary Ellen Vowels.

UPDATE: K9 units called to aid police search during pursuit on I-49

At 2:14 p.m. yesterday, a trooper advised he was in pursuit of a blue Dodge Intrepid northbound I-49 from the 138.4 mile marker in Bates County. The suspect vehicle fled as the trooper approached for traffic charges. The vehicle continued northbound on I-49 at a high rate of speed. At I-49 north of Route AA, the vehicle struck spike strips deployed by trooper's. The vehicle continued traveling northbound and the white male driver threw items and baggies from the vehicle during a span of several miles. The driver began gesturing with his hands, including making motions as if his hand were a pistol. No actual weapons were displayed. At 2:19 p.m., the vehicle exited northbound on MO-291 and the vehicle overheated, causing the vehicle to stop near Quik Trip on Rockhaven Road at MO-291. Vearl C. Strutton II age 42, was taken into custody without further incident. Strutton advised he failed to yield because he was en route to the hospital for a possible stroke. EMS transported subject to Cass County Medical Center where he was evaluated for that and other advised ailments with nothing confirmed. Strutton is currently at the hospital under evaluation. He was arrested for felony resisting, felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), felony tampering, no driver license, and exceeding posted speed limit. Investigation continues.

Vernon County Sheriffs Office: Second pursuit in one week, two more arrested‏

A second pursuit this week ended in two more people going to jail when Vernon County authorities were notified that a vehicle was being chased from ElDorado into Vernon County. The vehicle ran to the Walker area where Vernon County Deputies were able to trap the vehicle on a road as it tried to head out of Walker. Both subjects were taken into custody. Names and details about the pursuit have not been released pending investigation by the Vernon County Sheriffs Office and the ElDorado Police Department.

K9 units called to aid police search during pursuit on I-49

It is being reported that around 3:30 this afternoon the Missouri Highway Patrol was involved in a pursuit of an unidentified vehicle just north of Archie. It appears the occupants of the vehicle may have thrown items out the window and K9 units were brought in to search for those items near mile marker 151 on Northbound I-49 Highway.

At this time we are waiting to hear if the subject(s) were apprehended. More information will be published as it becomes available from the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Bates County Sheriff Released From Hospital

Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson has been released from the Bates County Memorial Hospital. He is at home resting and is expected to make a full recovery. Anderson was electrocuted yesterday in Rich Hill when a breaker box malfunction on a power pole. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes.
