Local Citizens Visit the MO Capitol‏

REPRESENTATIVE PIKE HOSTS GUESTS AT MO CAPITOL

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Citizens from Bates and Vernon County recently participated in a Jefferson City tour hosted by District 126 MO State Representative, Randy Pike. Guests visited with Representative Pike on the MO House Floor, toured the MO State Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion and Jefferson Landing’s 1904 World’s Fair exhibit. Representative Pike commented, “ It was a pleasure to welcome everyone to Jefferson City. In visiting around the district, I find that many have not had the opportunity to tour our beautiful Capitol area or it has been a long time since their last visit. This invitation was extended to any District 126 citizen interested in attending and learning more about Missouri history.”

Missouri State Highway Patrol driver examination stations closed


The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to remind the public that driver examination stations throughout the state will be closed in observance of July Fourth Holiday, on Friday, July 4, 2014. Normal operations will resume on Monday, July 7, 2014.

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!

Weather Update: Severe Storms Likely Today



Heads up as your start your Monday -- we're looking at another evening of severe weather across our area. Large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes are all possible late this afternoon through late evening, then the large hail and damaging wind threat will continue into the overnight hours. For the KC area, storms are expected mainly after 8 PM. Northwest Missouri, you may see severe weather starting as early as 5 PM.

HENRY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE: Investigation concludes


The investigation into the events that led to the discovery of a female juvenile found unclothed west of Clinton on June 17, 2014 has concluded.  Detective Sgt. Mike Nelson and Detective Chase Jackson have conducted several interviews of adults and juveniles that were at a party on Monday, June 16, 2014 in Montrose which is where the events started that led to the female juvenile being transported to the area west of Clinton.

There were no signs of sexual intercourse with the victim but three adults and possibly some of the five juveniles involved with the party face charges stemming from the events the night before.

Arrested during the course of the investigation were Lucas Hetherington, age 18 of Montrose for endangering the welfare of a child and felonious restraint;  Hilton McCulloch, age 28 of Montrose for delivery of a controlled substance to minors; and David R. Bennett, age 24 of Clinton for supplying alcohol to minors.

The five juveniles have been referred to the juvenile office in Henry County.

Obituary - Floyd A. “Butch” Herrell, Jr

Funeral services for Floyd A. “Butch” Herrell, Jr., will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Mullinax Funeral Home – Drexel Chapel in Drexel, Missouri with Revs. Chuck Murphy, Peter Eggebrecht, and Joel Whiteside officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 – 7 PM at the chapel. Burial will follow services in Sharon Cemetery near Drexel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Kansas City Hospice House, or Stand Up to Cancer. Messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Floyd A. “Butch” Herrell, Jr., 62 of Drexel, Missouri passed away June 29, 2014 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born August 25, 1951 in Harrisonville, Missouri, son of Floyd A. (Sr.) and Phyllis (Calhoun) Herrell.

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, and his mother. He is survived by a son, Nicholas J. Herrell and wife Jessica of Harrisonville; daughters Emily M. Herrell of Raymore, Missouri and Katherine Herrell Rich and husband Ty of Gridley, Kansas; his father and step-mother, Floyd Sr. and wife Ann of Harrisonville; a brother, Mike Herrell and wife Vickie of Harrisonville; and grandchildren Abigail, Zoey, Easton, Delaney, Colin, and Chloe.
