Weather Update: Hot Temperatures Today

We've got a little bit of something for most everyone over the next several days. You want heat and humidity with temperatures in the 90s? We've got you covered today and tomorrow. You don't like the heat and prefer temperatures more like May? Well, stick around as next Tuesday and Wednesday we'll see readings in the 70s. That's HIGH temperatures. In fact we have a chance of breaking the record low temperature those two mornings. No, you don't need to take in your plants Severe weather more your cup of tea? While not a guarantee, there is a risk for strong to severe storms across northern Missouri and far northeast Kansas Saturday afternoon and evening. Certainly the weather in this part of the country continues to be anything but boring.

Vernon County Sherrifs Office Press Release Spike Strips Used to Stop Pursuit‏

The Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher confirmed today that a vehicle pursuit ended near Compton Junction when the Sheriff’s Office used spike strips to stop the fleeing vehicle. According to the press release, a caller in Barton County reported a vehicle traveling North in the Southbound lane.

A Vernon County Sheriff’s Deputy notified dispatch just a little before 1:00 AM on Thursday that he had spotted the vehicle and was attempting to stop it. Deputies from Barton County and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted but could not get the driver to pull over. “We had no idea why the vehicle was driving in the wrong lane, but we had to get it stopped before it hit an on-coming vehicle,” said Mosher. Law enforcement, driving in the northbound lane, used their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to get the driver in the southbound lane to pull over and also to warn other vehicles of the danger, but could not get the driver to stop.

Sheriff Mosher said it was not until his office set up spike strips near the Compton Junction exit and deflated three of the vehicles tires that it came to a stop. The Sheriff said one person was taken into custody but would not give out any other information at this time pending the completion of the investigation.
