Harrisonville Police Department: Telephone scam being conducted in Harrisonville

The Harrisonville Police Department wants to warn citizens of a telephone scam being conducted in Harrisonville by a company, "Collections and Disconnect." So far the calls originate from 1-866-978-8068 or 1-866-978-7856. The telemarketer claims they are from KCP&L or surrounding electric companies and that your electricity is past due and in jeopardy of interruption. The telemarketer claims to avoid interruption, immediate payment is due in various high dollar increments. They request payment in form of check or "Green Dot" card from a drug store.

Remember to contact your electric provider for your most up to date billing information before sending any money. Also be aware of any company only accepting payment in form of check or payment card such as "Green Dot" cards or money orders.

If you receive any suspicious calls, contact KCP&L at 1-888-471-5275 to confirm that the person requesting the payment or your credit information is employed by KCP&L.
