Kenneth R. Johnson, 73, of Harrisonville, Missouri, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Harrisonville. 

Services are pending at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Obituary - Wilma G. Flanary


Wilma G. Flanary, 81, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, formerly of Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday August 1, 2014 at her home in Excelsior Springs. Graveside services will be held 10:00am Monday, August 4, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrisonville. 

Wilma was born July 2, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of Finis Thomas and Carrie Cleo (Wolkey) Roberts. Wilma was a long time resident of Cass County, Missouri and was a 1951 graduate of Garden City, Missouri High School. She was united in marriage to Elmer Clark Flanary on July 28, 1951 at the Harrisonville First Baptist Church, the Rev. George C. Monroe officiating minister. Wilma was baptized at age 9 at the Hollywood Presbyterian Church in Kansas City and was currently a member of Wolland Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, on December 14, 2013, her parents, a sister, Cleo Goodman, a brother, Finis Roberts Jr. and a grandson, Gabrielle Ketchum. Survivors include four daughters, Connie Ketchum, Freeman, Missouri, Cathy Jo Ginnings and husband, Dale, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Carrie Wilson and Carli Flanary, both of Freeman; a sister, Doris Smith, Bullard, Texas; an extended duaghter, Susan Figg, Garden City, Missouri; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

1 vehicle accident on I-49 South of Archie


The Missouri State Highway Patrol along with the Bates County Sheriffs office, Adrian Fire Department and Bates County EMS is in route to a  1 vehicle accident in the Southbound Lanes of  I-49 at Mile Marker 146 near the city of Archie.

Bates County Live will update this when more information from the Highway Patrol becomes available.

Bates County Sheriffs Office: CCW Classes


The Bates County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a free CCW Class on August 23rd for Bates County residents only. The class starts at 8 a.m. on the 23rd and lasts for 8 hours. 

You will be required to shoot 50 rounds with a revolver and 50 rounds with a semi-automatic. Class size is limited. If you would like to sign up, please contact Jami Page at 660-679-3232.

Zion Lutheran Church Youth Group in Prairie City invites everyone to an Ice Cream and Pie Social this Sunday, Aug, 3, at 5:30 p.m. Youth will make be making the homemade ice cream and homemade pies and cobblers will be served! Body found at Stockton Lake identified; investigators say death suspicious


NEAR STOCKTON, Mo. -Federal authorities say they are now investigating the body of a Springfield man found at Stockton Lake last month as a suspicious death.

The body of Michael Scott Algiere, 26, was found in the Crabtree Cove area of Stockton Lake on Sunday, July 27.  Investigators believe the man had been dead for at least two days.  

The FBI is now investigating the death as suspicious.
A couple on a hike found the body Sunday afternoon.

Clinton Police Department Arrest Report: Butler man arrested

  • 19 year old Stephen Carl Mannino of Clinton was arrested Thursday at 1:05am at Third and Grandriver streets for driving while revoked and suspended.

  • 19 year old Justin Michael Williamson of Butler was arrested at the Bates County Sheriff's Office in Butler on Thursday at 5am for the Clinton ordinance of failing to appear upon arrest and summons.

Vernon County Circuit Court News



A man from Pelion, South Carolina has been bound over to Vernon County circuit court for trial on a felony charge alleging the possession of a controlled substance, marijuana. 

Court docket information, available on-line, indicates 29-year-old Edward A. Manning appeared in associate circuit court Thursday and waived his right to a preliminary hearing and he was bound over to circuit court for trial. A formal arraignment before 28th circuit presiding judge James R. Bickel is pending.
