REMINDER: Circus coming to town


The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus will be in Butler on Sunday, September 7th with two scheduled performances at 2:00 and 4:30pm. Skeeter, the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus Advance Clown will be in Butler about two weeks before Circus Day.

Arrive early September 7th and watch the raising of the Big Top from 9:30 – 10am as well as animals unloaded and rigging prepared for later performances. A free tour will be offered afterward. The presentation will include a walking tour of the circus grounds where you will learn interesting facts about performers, the history of the show and the care of the circus animals.

The Midway will open at 1pm with pony rides, a 22-foot inflatable slide and a carousel moon bounce. They will have classic concession food on sale before the 90-minute performances which will include a trapeze, unicycles, contortion, tight wire, clown, performing animals and much more.

MoDOT/Southwest Area Road and Bridge Work



  • Bates County
I-49: One northbound and/or one southbound lane closed in areas between Archie and Rich Hill. Mile Markers 120-147. Resurfacing and installing guardrail.

  • Cass County
I-49: Slope slide repair will close the right lane of southbound I-49 just south of 155th Street from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, and from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4.

Route 58: Sidewalk, curb and gutter work will close the right lane at times on eastbound Route 58 between I-49 and N. Clint Drive from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Thursday, Aug. 21, through Sept. 12.

Route 58: Sidewalk, curb and gutter work will close a lane at times on westbound Route 58 between I-49 and N. Clint Drive from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Aug. 31.

I-49: Roadside work will restrict southbound I-49 between 155th Street and 163rd Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October 1.

I-49: Asphalt milling and resurfacing will restrict southbound I-49 at Route B near Archie through September 29.

I-49: Rehabilitation and re-decking of the East Outer Road Bridge between Rockhaven Road and Peculiar Drive a mile northwest of Harrisonville will restrict northbound and southbound I-49 beneath the bridge through September 10.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Arrest Report 8/28/14

  •  On 8/28/14 around 8:20p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 32 year old Tristan K. Momeni of Independence, Missouri. He was arrested on 1.) Felony possession of a controlled substance. He was processed at the scene and later released.

Obituary - Barbara Louise Boyles


Graveside services for Barbara Boyles will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Mark Harvey officiating. There is no visitation. Contributions to Adrian Manor. Services under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.

Barbara Louise Boyles, age 75 of Archie, Missouri died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born October 9, 1938 to Howard Payton and Aline Elizabeth Lord Carson in Denver, Colorado.

Barbara is survived by two sons, Johnnie Lee Boyles and wife Yvette of Adrian, Missouri and Larry Ray Boyles and wife Sherry of Archie, Missouri; one brother, Gary Carson and wife Kay of Lacey, Washington; three halfbrothers, Jim Barker, Joe Barker and Terry Barker; and seven grandchildren, Amber, Brandon, Josh, Caitlyn, Larry Lee, Kevin and Missy; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence “Roy” Boyles; one brother, Larry Carson; and two infant children.

BUTLER, MO ― Kevin and Mary Fischer of Bates County were among the 110 families honored during the Missouri State Fair’s Farm Family Day on August 11, 2014. 


The Fischers were selected as the Bates County Missouri State Fair Farm Family by the Bates County Extension Council and local Farm Bureau. 


Each year, the fair sets aside a day to recognize farm families from across the state who are active in their community, involved in agriculture, and participate in local outreach and extension programs such as 4-H and FFA. 


The annual event was sponsored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri State Fair, the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and University of Missouri Extension.

Obituary - Billee Rae (West) Lee


Billee Rae (West) Lee, LaCygne, Kansas and a native of El Dorado Springs, Mo. and a 1948 graduate of El Dorado Springs High School, passed away today at the age of 84. Arrangements are under direction of the Schneider Funeral Home-Chapel at LaCygne and services are planned at 11:00 a,m. Saturday, August 30, at the LaCygne Christian Church with burial to follow in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family receives friends between five and seven o'clock Friday evenng at the funeral home-chapel in LaCygne. Memorials to the LaCygne Christian Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation are suggested.
