Funeral services for Richard Holliday will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Rev. Vicky Crawford officiating. There is no visitation. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to American Heart Association.

Richard Edward Holliday, age 71 of Pleasant Hill, Missouri died Friday, August 29, 2014 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was born November 15, 1942 to George Tillman and Gussie Roberts Holliday in Baltimore, Maryland.

Richard is survived by one son, Richard “Ed” Holliday of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three daughters, Tammy Sue Lighthill and husband Dave of Greenville, Illinois, Kimberly Ann Wilkinson of Independence, Missouri and Renee Hughes and husband Chris of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one stepson, Bryon Carmichael and wife Tiffany of Grandview, Missouri; one sister, Nancy Stone of Baltimore, Maryland; 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Margaret; his second wife Willa; one son, Timmy Holliday; stepson JuJu Carmichael; and one sister, Belle Brittingham.

The annual Amsterdam Jubilee- Family fun and then some...

The 38th annual Amsterdam Jubilee is all set for Sept. 26th and 27th- and promises to be one of best celebrations yet. This year's theme is 'Back to Our Roots'.

Kick off will be Friday Sept. 26th with a BBQ and live music by the Irvins 5 to 8 p.m. sponsored by Welborn's Thriftway in Drexel.

Saturday's schedule:

7 a.m. - Mason pancake breakfast and the Community Building

8:30 to 9 a.m. - Registration for the baby contest, ages 0-24 months at the grandstand on main street

9 a.m. - Baby contest on main street

Flash Flood Warning in effect

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Bates County due to slow moving storms that are producing heavy rainfall. Affected areas are Hume, Rich Hill and Butler. Expect excessive flow in the Maris Des Cygnes river as well.

Remember, NEVER drive through running water under any circumstances.

BBQ Contest and Huckster's Day This Weekend In Butler

BATES COUNTY, Mo - Excitement is building for this weekend as the BBQ Contest and Hucksters Days hits the Butler Square.Traffic will be blocked to the Butler Square beginning Thursday evening, September 4th. Vendors will be allowed through to set up until Friday at 5pm and all spaces are filled. 

After 5pm on Friday, all through-traffic will be prohibited until Saturday evening. You will be able to park at the First Baptist Church, the Ohio Street United Methodist Church and the Butler High School Parking lots.

The Butler Chamber of Commerce trolley will be available for you to ride up to the Butler Square, with the drop off at the City Hall Corner.

You won’t want to miss a moment of fun this weekend at the Butler Chamber of Commerce’s BBQ / Hucksters day, Friday and Saturday, September 5th and 6th.

Confirmed: Drexel to get Dollar Store early next year

location of a new Dollar Store early next year
Two sets of plans cover a table at City Hall in Drexel that outline construction details of a new store that will built at 2nd and Elm streets, directly east of Casey's.

Plans include clearing of property, including the house shown in the photo and a lot just to the east as well.

In speaking with city employee Peggy Moles, it appears that zoning changes are complete and necessary permits have been issued with construction to begin soon.

The new Drexel Dollar General is expected to be open in early 2015.

Dollar General has 11,000+ stores in 40 states and employs just over 100,000 people nationwide.

UPDATE: Missing girl from Lamar Found In Joplin

The Lamar Police Department says a three-year-old girl apparently taken by her non-custodial mother Monday in Lamar has been found, safe, in Joplin.

The Lamar Police Department identified the mother as Bayleigh Masterson but they have not said whether she was with the girl, Gabriella Gwen Masterson, when the three-year-old was found. Bates County Live will update this when more information becomes available.

Obituary - Kevin Jacobs

A graveside service for Kevin Jacobs, 24 years old, of Dennison, Iowa, and formerly of Milan, Missouri, will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 5, 2014, at Lonesome Pine Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan.

Kevin passed away, Saturday, August 30, 2014, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. 

Survivors include: his fiancé, Kaycee Trevino of the home; his daughter, Keylee Jacobs of the home; parents, Toni and Eldo Eaglen of Milan, Missouri and Stewart and Kerrie Jacobs of Butler, Missouri; 4 siblings, Bodie Eaglen of Milan, Catherine Eaglen of Milan, Kyler Jacobs of Butler, and Kale Jacobs of Butler: Father-in-law to be, Carlos Trevino, Sr. of Denison, IA; and Mother in law to be, Renee Coltrain of Newtown, MO: Grandparents, Jim and Donna Fritts of Butler, Florence Fritts of Nevada, MO, Cheryl Eaglen of Harris, MO, and Steve and Jessie Jacobs of Nevada, MO; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Lamar Police Department looking for missing child

Lamar, MO - State of Missouri Endangered Person Advisory The Lamar Police Department has issued an Endangered Person Advisory for a missing person incident that occurred at 1305 Cherry, Lamar, Missouri at 12:30 PM on September 1, 2014.

  • Missing Is:  Gabriella Gwen Masterson a white, female, age 3
  • Possible suspects or associates are believed to be:  Bayleigh Masterson, a white, female, age 25, hgt 506, 125 lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes.
  • The endangered missing person:  Gabriella Gwen Masterson, is a white, female, age 3, hgt 400, 40 lbs, red hair, blue eyes, with birth mark on back of neck, wearing yellow and white tank top, blue and white striped shorts and grey flip flops.
  • Brief circumstances regarding the Endangered Missing Person incident:  Gabriella Gwen Masterson was taken from 1305 Cherry, in Lamar, Missouri at 12:30 on September 1, 2014 by her noncustodial mother, Bayleigh Masterson. Gabriella Masterson was last seen wearing a yellow and white tank top, blue and white striped shorts and grey flip flops.
