Santa Claus Coming to Rich Hill

Santa Claus is coming to Food Fair in Rich Hill this Saturday from 10 am-12 pm and your child can tell Santa what they what they Christmas! 

You will also get a free photo of the visit (to be picked up December 23rd). There will also be a goodie bag handed out to each child and snacks and samples for the parents. Merry Christmas from Food Fair of Rich Hill.

Obituary - Abricus "Brick" Antonion Thomas

Abricus "Brick" Antonion Thomas of Rich Hill passed away on Tuesday, December 16th. He was 30. Arrangements are under the direction of Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Rich Hill Myrtle Tree Fellowship Church. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Rich Hill. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Abricus Thomas Memorial Fund in care of the Heuser Funeral Home.

Robbery and Shooting in Sedalia

The Sedalia Police Department reports that at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, officers responded to a business at 108 S. Ohio Ave. to investigate a reported gunshot victim. 

Upon arrival they made contact with the victim which had obvious serious wounds. The business is listed as Gold Buyer.

It appears the victim Wesley Brown was shot during the course of a robbery. It is unknown what items were taken from the business or subject in this.

Ballard R-II School District Middle Level (grades 5-8) Student of the Month

The Ballard R-II School District is pleased to be working in conjunction with the Ballard Parent-Teacher Organization to honor a Middle Level (grades 5-8) Student of the Month for the 2014-2015 school year.

Student of the Month is selected by the staff of the Ballard R-II School District using the following criteria: attendance; attitude towards others and school; behavior; leadership; and improvement in or maintenance of good grades.

The Middle Level Student of the Month for November is 6th grader Drake Vermillion, son of Tara Vermillion and Wayne Vermillion. Music Instructor, Vicki Lybarger, claims “Drake is a very hard worker. When he sets his mind to do something, he goes all in. He is a bit of a show off, which sometimes gets him in hot water, but it came in real handy during the play. He did an excellent job as Scrooge. Drake is very smart, and I look for big things in his future.

”For Drake’s hard work in school he is receiving a certificate of recognition from the Ballard PTO and a $15 gift certificate to the Ballard Grill.

Miami County Kansas woman arrested on traffic stop in Butler

 On 12-16-2014 around 13:30 hours a Butler Police Department officer stopped a Black 1998 Dodge Dakota for no license plates. With the assistance of the Bates County Sheriff’s Office Canine a search of the vehicle was conducted at which time drug paraphernalia was located as well as a handgun. 

The driver was identified as 31 year old Dawn L. Bailey of Fontana, Kansas she was transported to the Bates County Jail and is currently still incarcerated.

She has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and has more charges pending. The bail for Bailey was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Funeral services for Martha Conner will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial in Johnstown Cemetery in Johnstown, Missouri 

Martha Lorene Conner, age 94 of Montrose, Missouri died Monday, December 15, 2014 at Appleton City Manor in Appleton City, Missouri. She was born February 2, 1920 to Luther Alonzo and Jennie Cassie Mitchell Broam in McDonald County, Missouri.

Martha is survived by four sons, Bill Conner and wife Sue of Tebbetts, Missouri, Nelson Conner and wife Dorothy of Las Vegas, Nevada, Stanley Conner of Montrose, Missouri and John Conner and wife Gina of Montrose, Missouri; four daughters, Thelma Pease and husband Gene of Kansas City, Missouri, Glenda McCoy of Chillicothe, Ohio, Lorretta Ayer and husband George of China Grove, North Carolina and Cynthia Zehnder and husband Randy of Clinton, Missouri; a daughter-in-law Rose Ann Conner of Sedalia, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Broam of Edmond, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Conner, six siblings; a son, Jim Conner, a granddaughter, Cynthia Rice and a great-grandson, Chad Rice.

North Central Regional Award for newsletter publication presented to Alan Mundey

The award was presented at the National Association of 4-H Agents national conference in Minneapolis, MN.
