Obituary - Ruth Anne Grizzell

Ruth Anne Grizzell
Ruth Anne Grizzell, 80 of Butler, Missouri passed away January 17, 2015 at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Ohio Street United Methodist Church in Butler with Pastor Sandy Schaller and Rev. Ron Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Contributions are suggested to the Ohio Street United Methodist Church, or Happy Hill Church of God, and are being received at the funeral home. Ruth “Ruthie” Anne (Rippee) Grizzell was born October 24, 1934 in Wright County, Missouri in "a little log cabin across the creek from Grandma’s house." She was the daughter of Marion Virgil and Lois Marjorie (Pyatt) Rippee.

Ruth Anne was raised and went to school in Southwest Missouri before marrying her husband David; starting in Niangua, Mo. to Independence, Mo., and settling in Butler in 1953. They had five children: David, Jess, Cynthia, Carol and Lisa. Ruth was a mother and business partner; Ruth and David had started a small business and they later purchased the first Bass Pro Shop franchise, later adding a variety of cheese, liquor and gifts.

Ruth was very active in the United Methodist Church and choir. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and served on various committees of the Bates County Fair, Dairy Women (Dairy Day), Bates County Career Women, United Methodist Women, and she also coached softball and bowling. She loved music and enjoyed the Meryl Norman Players. She also loved the Sunday evening Happy Hill church services. Her hobbies included golf, bridge, flowers, and crocheting. Ruth also enjoyed opening her home to her kids and their friends as a place to hang out, and later received much joy from her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a true fighter to the end and will be missed by her family and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband David Luther Grizzell, Sr.; son David Luther Grizzell, Jr.; and great-granddaughter Hannah Nicole Saulsbury. She is survived by a sister, Sarah Freeman of Springfield, Missouri; daughter-in-law Barbara Grizzell of Raintree with grandchildren Jennifer and Kurt Talley of Lake Winnebago, Mo., (parents of great-grandchildren Isabella Talley and Brooks Talley); grandchildren Abby Grizzell of Lee’s Summit and Taylor Grizzell of Greenwood; son Jess Grizzell and wife Cindy of Waynesville with grandchildren Valerie Saulsbury-Effertz (mother of great-grandchildren Hunter Saulsbury, Macy Saulsbury and Chase Effertz); granddaughter Tracy Grizzell Rapp and husband Jeff of Butler (parents of great-granddaughter Sophie Cummings); grandson Matthew Grizzell and fiancĂ© Megan Ramsey of Olathe, Kansas; and grandson Trevor Grizzell of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Cynthia Grizzell Breon and husband Steve of Kansas City, Missouri, with grandson Bobby Breon and wife Leslie of Overland Park, Kansas and granddaughter Andrea Breon Daniels and husband Billy of Overland Park; daughter Carol Grizzell of Peculiar, Missouri with granddaughter Megan Schmidt of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter Lisa Grizzell Tenholder and husband Jim of Butler, with grandchildren Liz Tenholder of Butler, Brian Tenholder and wife Nikki (parents of great-grandchildren Brunson, Kayden and Reagan); granddaughter Delaina Tenholder Newsome and husband Shawn of Harrisonville (and great-grandchildren Chloe and Gabriella “Gabby”); and grandson David Tenholder of Butler.

Cass County Crash sends two people to the hospital

On 1/17/15 around 1:25 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol along with deputies from The Cass County Sheriffs Office responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 2 Highway and Blinker Light road in rural Cass County.

The accident occurred when the 2001 Ford Escort driven by Chase J. Martin 20 years old from Harrisonville, Missouri was Southbound on Missouri Highway 2 when he failed to yield to the 2005 Ford 500 driven by Jeffery W. Allen 35 years old of Garden City, Missouri causing Allen's vehicle to strike the Martin vehicle.


Jeffery W. Allen was taken to Research Hospital with moderate injuries, A passenger in the Martin vehicle 19 year old Alaina M. Davis of Harrisonville,Missouri was taken by EMS to Cass Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.


The vehicles were both totaled and towed from the scene by Miller Tow.

Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest report 1/17/15


On 1/17/15 around 3:45 a.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 26 year old Sara L. Dean of Garden City, Missouri. She was arrested on 1.) Felony possession of a controlled substance.

She was booked into the Bates County Jail and later released

Obituary - Constance R. “Connie” Hayes

Constance R. “Connie” Hayes, 66, of Pleasant Hill, MO passed away January 16, 2015 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Her wishes were to be cremated, with a memorial service scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 24th at the Kingdom Hall in Pleasant Hill, MO. Henry County woman injured in 1 vehicle accident

One person was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Jan. 16 in Henry County on County Road SE 110 around one-tenth of a mile north of Highway 7.

Dawn M. Hill, 46, Clinton, unknown at the time of this accident report whether she was wearing a seat belt, was southbound in a 2005 Isuzu, when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and up an embankment. Subsequently, the vehicle struck a tree, rotated clockwise, struck a second tree, then came to a rest on its wheels facing north.

Dawn M. Hill experienced moderate injuries and was transported by personal conveyance to Golden Valley Hospital. The vehicle was totaled and removed by the owner.

Funeral Services for Samuel A. McCoun, 82 of Rich Hill, MO will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 19th at the Heuser Funeral Home of Rich Hill. Burial in the Greenlawn Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 1 pm until service time at the Funeral Home.Contributions may be made to the Sam McCown Memorial Fund in care of the Heuser Funeral Home.

He is survived by two daughters, Connie Schaller of Butler and Carol Freer of Joplin. Four grandchildren – Kimberly Ward (Monte) of Joplin; Samantha Freer, Carthage; Renner Schaller (Melanie) of Fairgrove; Christopher Schaller and Maggie of Butler. 5 great grandchildren and 1 brother Donald McCown (Irene) of Grandview.

Maple Senior Living in Butler closing

BUTLER, Mo – Residents and their families were notified in early January that the Maple Senior Living facility would be closing and everyone would need to find another place to reside by February 6th and were offered help to relocate.
Atria Management Company LLC, of Louisville Kentucky has been in discussions with the City of Butler regarding the building and property but no decisions have been made at this time. This matter will be discussed on Tuesday, January 20th during the Butler City Council when Butler Citizens who own or rent property adjacent to the Maple Senior Living Facility will be attending the meeting to express their concerns.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting which begins at 7 pm but only those who made advanced arrangements will be on the agenda and be allowed to address the Council.
