Obituary - Rhonda Rae (Gardner) Mowell

Rhonda Rae (Gardner) Mowell, 51, of Pleasant Hill, MO passed away January 25, 2015 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Memorial services are pending and will be pubished when they become available. Contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Rhonda was born June 30, 1963 in Randolf County, Missouri to Cliff and Darlene (Johnson) Gardner. She married Craig Adams in 1982 and from that union two daughters were born. She later married Alan Mowell, the love of her life, on September 9, 1995. He survives her of the home. An avid reader who loved the color purple, Rhonda was well known for collecting cows. She had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. A kind soul who would help anyone out if she could. Rhonda was known as "Mom" to scores of kids over the years; but her greatest joy was being "Nana" to her grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her sister, Rita Mae Gardner Morris; her father, Cliff Arthur Gardner; 2 older brothers, Leroy Dale Garder and William Lee (Bo) Gardner; her step-father, Ray Alton Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Alan Mowell of Pleasant Hill, MO; two daughters, Stephanie Adams and partner Dustin Agcopra of Holden, MO and Courtney Calvert and husband Michael of Pleasant Hill, MO; step-son Justin Mowell and wife Traci of Kingsville, MO; and seven grandchildren: Alex, Ayden, and Attea Agcopra, Brooklyn and Kelton Harrison, Gianna Calvert, and Casen Mowell. Rhonda is also survived by her sister Rebecca Wrenn and partner Jerry Barton of Kalispell, MT; brother David Wayne Gardner and wife Jean of Breckenridge, MO, and brother Phillip Garder and wife Belma of Kansas City, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by countless friends and neighbors, especially her dearest friend, Viki Whistle who she loved like a sister.

Mark W. Goebel
Mullinax Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., is pleased to announce that Mark W. Goebel has joined its full-time professional staff.

Goebel, 33, holds funeral director licenses in Missouri and Kansas; embalmer licenses in both states; is a licensed pre-need agent; and a certified Crematory Operator. He is a 2002 graduate of Kansas City, Kansas Community College, where he earned a degree in Mortuary Science. He also studied at Mount Ida College in Boston.

Mark is a fourth-generation funeral director and embalmer. Born and raised in Yates Center, Kansas, he grew up in his family’s funeral business begun by his great-grandfather in 1933. Mark is very familiar with our area. After finishing school, he began working at funeral homes in Lousiburg, Kansas and Drexel, Missouri, and went on to eventually manage those locations. When the owner of those firms sold the Drexel, Missouri location to Mullinax Funeral Home in 2006, Mark maintained his affiliation with the Drexel location, assisting there and at our Butler location until present time. Mark has recently left his position of funeral director at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Shawnee, Kansas, where he worked since 2008.

Mullinax, owner and president. “As we serve more families, I have seen the need to increase our staff. Mark is the most experienced, competent and capable funeral director and embalmer you could want. Mark joins Greg Mullinax as a full-time funeral director at the main location in Butler, which continues to serve Drexel with a branch chapel there for services. Mark also specializes in monument design and sales. In his spare time, he enjoys working on the 10-acre home he recently purchased near Ballard, and working on old cars.

Kansas City teen injured in St. Clair County crash

A Kansas City teen was moderately injured in a one vehicle accident yesterday afternoon in St. Clair County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 1:10 P.M. yesterday afternoon on MO 13, 3 miles North of Collins, in St. Clair County, involving a 2009 Ford Focus driven by 19 year old Andrew Gerstner. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says, Gerstner was traveling Northbound when he suffered a medical condition, before he ran off the left side of the roadway, crossing the median, and the Southbound lanes of MO 13, and struck a tree. 

Mr.Gerstner was listed with moderate injuries and transported by ambulance to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar.

Suspect in Clinton Burglaries arrested‏

Dustin Eugene Newell
On the morning of Saturday, January 24th at approximately 7:31 A.M., Clinton Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of West Gravel Street. At that location they found that the homeowner had detained a man he caught breaking into and burglarizing his garage. The man was identified as 26 year old Clinton resident, Dustin Eugene Newell who is also known as Cheeseburger. 

The victim had discovered Newell while he was in the process of removing several items from the garage and stacking them a short distance away. Those items were recovered there. Several other items stolen from the garage were also recovered from a residence at 421 West Short Street. It is believed that Newell had at least one accomplice in the theft but they were not identified. 

Property that was stolen in at least one other burglary, a pair of boots, was being worn by Newell. There have been over 20 similar burglaries in the Clinton area in the past few months. Clinton Police Detectives continue to investigate Newell and possible accomplices. If you have recently purchased any property from him or associates of his, or if you have any information regarding these burglaries, please call the Clinton Police Department at 660-885-2679. 

 Newell was arrested for 24 hour investigation of 2nd degree Burglary, receiving stolen property and outstanding Clinton Municipal warrants.

Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest report 1/25/15

On 1.25.15 around 10:45 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 22 year old Samantha M. Peters of Lees Summit, Missouri.

She was arrested on 1.)Felony possession of a controlled substance 2.) Possession of up to 35 grams of Marijuana 3.) Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia 4.) Speed.

She was booked into the Bates County Jail and later released.

Schell City woman injured in Vernon County accident

On 1.24.15 around 5:30 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a 1 vehicle accident on First Street in Schell City.

The accident occurred when the 1995 GMC Truck driven by 47 year old Debbie A. Kennedy of Schell City, Missouri left the roadway and struck a tree.

She received moderate injuries and was taken to Cedar County Memorial Hospital in Eldorado Springs, Missouri. The vehicle received moderate damage and was towed by a private tow.
