Obituary - Alice Ladine Smith

Alice Ladine Smith, 90, formerly of Appleton City Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 7th at the Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Mo. Visitation will be h eld prio to service from 10:30 - 11am. Burial will be in the Apple City Cemetery.

Obituary - Angell Palmer

Angell Palmer, of Rich Hill, passed away on Tuesday, February 3rd at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was 92. Arrangements are under the direction of Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill. Funeral services will be announced later by Heuser Funeral Home.

Majestic Cellars in Butler Closing

BUTLER, MO - Dennis Straub of Majestic Cellars has announced that his establishment will be closing its doors as of March 1st.

Majestic Cellars is located in the historic Inn Hotel Building that was recently sold to Pamela Rushley and Mike Clark, who have renamed the building, “The Pennell” and have plans for a restaurant in the main lobby and in the basement area, and will utilize the space that is currently held by Majestic Cellars. More information regarding their grand opening will be given at a later date.

St.Clair County Sheriffs Office: Felony warrant arrest

On Feb. 3, Jessica Thomas, 21, Osceola, was arrested in Osceola on St. Clair County warrant for a probation violation on the original class C felony charge of possessing a controlled substance. Bond was set at $5,000 cash only. The warrant was issued on Jan. 28 and stems from an incident in August 2012.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Stolen property located/ Warrant arrest

On Feb. 3, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to a residence on Cleveland Street, Lowry City, in reference to stolen property being located. Contact was made with Shawn Casey who stated some property which was recently stolen from him was in the bed of a black pickup truck parked at a residence.  On Feb. 1 Casey reported several items missing from a barn at his property on A Highway where his house was recently lost due to a fire.

Casey said he was driving by the residence and noticed numerous burnt items belonging to him in the bed of the truck. He said some of the items were reported stolen and other items, he didn’t know were stolen. The black pickup truck was seized as evidence.
While on scene, a white pickup truck drove by with items in the back of it that Casey identified as stolen from him. The white pickup truck was located a short time later on NE D Highway near NE A Highway and a traffic stop was conducted. The alleged stolen items were no longer in the back of the truck.

Contact was made with the driver, Tallon Vaughn, 22, Lowry City, who had an active warrant for his arrest. Vaughn was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant for failing to appear in court on an original misdemeanor charge of exceeding the posted speed limit by 41- 45 mph. Bond was set at $450.50 cash only. The investigation is ongoing

Obituary - Robert Wallace Bousfield

Visitation for Robert Wallace Bousfield, 76, of Drexel, MO will be held from 10am - 12pm on Friday, February 6th at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. 

A private family burial will be held at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office: recent increase in crime

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking the public's help regarding a recent increase in crime. According to St. Clair County Sheriff Officials, on January 29th, Deputies began investigating a report of burglary from the Osceola area. The victim said they arrived home to find a screen door open and a door damaged, with property missing, including a 46” TV. Officials also say, on February 1st, Deputies took a report of theft from a resident of Lowry City. 

The victim reported various tools and equipment stolen from a barn. Anyone with information regarding these crimes are asked to call the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Tip line at 417-646-5832. The St. Clair County Sheriff Officials remind area residents to be aware of the traffic on your road. 

If you see a suspicious vehicle in your community, attempt to get a license place number, as well as a vehicle description, and a description of the person or persons in the vehicle.
