Water Main Break in Butler

The Butler Street Department is in route to a possible water main break in Butler. 

The location of this water main break is at the corner of High Street and Nursery Street.


Please use caution when traveling in this area as crews will be working to fix this leak.

Bates County Sheriffs Office: Attempt to locate

The Bates County Sheriffs Office is currently attempting to locate a black ford truck driving around selling laundry detergent and air filters. These people have not committed a crime but has caused an alarm due to recent Burglaries in other county's. If you have contact with them please contact the sheriff's office at 679-3232

Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest report 2/5/15







On 2.5.15 around 2:55 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 47 year old Melissa M. Randolph of Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin.

She was arrested on 1.) Felony possession of a controlled substance and later released from the Bates County Jail.

Obituary - Marilyn Margaret Paul

Marilyn Margaret Paul, 84, Archie, Missouri, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville, Missouri.

Funeral services are pending at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Service times and complete obituary will be posted when available.

Obituary - Leora M. Brock

Leora M. Brock, 90, passed away February 4, 2015 at her home in New Lancaster, Kansas. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Sunday February 8th at the Mullinax Funeral Home Drexel Chapel (660)679-0009 with Greg Mullinax officiating. 

Visitation will be Saturday February 7th from 6 to 8 pm also at the funeral home in Drexel. Burial will follow services in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Missouri. Leora Mary (Beeman) Brock was born in Merwin, Missouri on May 20, 1924. The daughter of Ray T. and Ivan Leora Fink Beeman. Leora moved to the New Lancaster community and has lived there for 73 years. She was married to Keith Brock in Drexel, Missouri on June 14, 1959.

Leora worked at various jobs, sitting with the elderly, working as a waitress, grocery clerk, sewing factories, selling Avon and volunteering at Adrian Manor for years. Leora & Keith opened their home to several foster children. In later years, she took care of her ailing husband. After his passing in 2009 she went back to one of her favorite jobs, selling Avon. She continued to sell until her death. Leora was always in the Avon Presidents Club. She was an extremely kind person and always had a smile and a kind word to say. She would help anyone in need.

Leora belonged to the Drexel Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Linn Valley Lake Church.

Leora was preceded in death by her husband Keith, her parents, four brothers; Ray J., Robert D., Ivan Omer, and Dale (Frog) Beeman. She is survived by a brother Raymond Erwin Beeman and wife Edith of Springfield, MO, a sister Lila (Beeman) Harris and her husband Ronald of Drexel, MO, and by many nieces and nephews. “God saw you get tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered, “Come with Me.”

Memorial services for Donna McWilliams will be 4 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to services from 3-4 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Contributions to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. 

Donna Lee McWilliams, age 75 of Belton, Missouri, formerly of Amsterdam, Missouri died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Medicalodge in Butler. She was born July 1, 1939 to Clifford Micheal and Thelma Rose McFarland Leister in Salina, Kansas.

Donna is survived by two daughters, Mechel Sitler and husband Robert of Peculiar, Missouri and Larnel Lantsberger of Raytown, Missouri; two sisters, Linda Case and husband Larry of Amsterdam, Missouri and Susan Harris and husband Clinton of Gladstone, Missouri; six grandchildren, Uriah, Justin, Chad, Brianna, Brice and Katey; seven great-grandchildren, Tamiah, Uriah Jr., Mariah, Noah, Hayden, Chase and Eli. She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Rechel; and one brother, Mike Leister.

Obituary - Norma Elizabeth Dodson

Norma Elizabeth Dodson, 79, Drexel, Missouri, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation from 11:00-12:00. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery in Drexel.

BCMH February Employee of the month

AMY HELLER
AMY HELLER is recognized as the Bates County Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for  February, 2015. Amy has been employed at BCMH since 2009 as a Licensed Practical Nurse on the night shift. 

She is hard working and easy going, even when the work load keeps going
up, she easily adapts and accepts new assignments. Amy has a positive attitude - smiling and fun to work with. She is polite and respectful to patients. 

Amy is working to better herself by earning her RN degree. She asks for input from co-workers and works well with each member of the team. 

The hospital is proud to have Amy on its' healthcare team.
