Bates County Memorial Hospital Implements New Hospitalist Program to Keep Care Local

Bates County Memorial Hospital (BCMH) is collaborating with Saint Luke’s Health System and Saint Luke’s Physician Specialists to bring a more advanced level of inpatient care to the community beginning March 1, 2015. Called a hospitalist program, BCMH will utilize a team of inpatient physician specialists trained in internal medicine or family medicine to care for patients while they are hospitalized. The hospitalist team includes Mark Galant, M.D., lead hospitalist, Tamara Crouse, D.O., Preeti Sood, M.D., and Berhane Solomon, M.D.

“The BCMH board carefully considered several options for a hospitalist program, but ultimately decided collaborating with Saint Luke’s, one of the region’s quality health care providers, offered us the best solution for our community,” says Edward Hannon, BCMH Chief Executive Officer.

“A hospitalist program allows us to deliver a more modern approach to inpatient care at BCMH and is much more efficient for our patients and our staff,” says James Miller, D.O., Nursery Street Family Care Clinic. “This program helps us provide a better continuity of care for our patients.”

John Bustle, M.D., Nursery Street and Adrian Family Care Clinics, agrees with Dr. Miller and adds, “The hospitalist program is making it possible for BCMH to offer the same level of care here that is available at many hospitals in the city, without having to transfer patients there. That means we can take care of more patients locally. That’s good for our patients, the community and our hospital.”

Scam attempts being made on citizens

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office warns citizens of recent scam attempts being made on citizens. Sheriff Scott Keeler said a citizen recently reported receiving a telephone call with a recorded message stating they owed money to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The message stated if the citizen did not follow instructions regarding payment, the IRS would confiscate their assets. The sheriff said luckily the citizen did not interact with the call, recognized it as a scam and called the sheriff’s office to report it.

The sheriff explained another citizen actually talked to an individual claiming to be from the IRS who stated the citizen owed money. The citizen was threatened by the individual saying a warrant will be issued if the debt is not paid.

“Government agencies like the IRS will not attempt to contact individuals by phone, email or text” said Sheriff Keeler. “The agencies will only mail tax information to individuals. As frustrating as these calls may be, there is no crime committed until money is exchanged.”

UPDATE: Large hay bale fire Northeast of Adrian

Around 8:50 p.m. the Adrian Fire Department with assistance from the Butler Fire Department, Creighton Fire Department, Garden City Fire Department, Urich Fire Department and the Bates County Sheriffs Office all responded to a fire involving approximately 50 large round bales of hay.

The location of this fire was East of Adrian to Z Highway then North on Z Highway until it turns to gravel on the East side of the roadway. The cause of this fire was accidental in nature and fire crews were on scene until 12:25 a.m. bcl420

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Sheldon woman arrested

On Feb. 25, Natasha Enochs, 32, Sheldon, was arrested in Roscoe on a St. Clair County warrant for failing to appear in court on an original misdemeanor charge of stealing motor fuel. The warrant was issued on Feb. 9 and stems from an incident on Sept. 26, 2013. Bond is set at $216 cash only. Enochs was also arrested on a warrant from Vernon County charging her with a class C felony of theft/stealing. 

The warrant was issued on December 9, 2014 and stems from an incident in November 2014. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Arrest warrant issued

On Feb. 25, a St. Clair County warrant was issued for Brad Larson, 56, Wichita, Ks., for failing to appear in court on two class C felony charges of passing a bad check. The charges stem from incidents on February 12-13, 2013. Bond is set at $2,500 cash only.
