Updated Obituary - Dr. Robert Lynn Hatten

Memorial services for Dr. Rob Hatten will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Butler Presbyterian Church in Butler, Missouri with Rev. Mari Lyn Jones officiating and Rose Ceremony following the service. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 PM at the church.

The family requests no flowers, but suggests contributions be made to the Butler Public Library, and will be received at the service. Messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Dr. Robert Lynn Hatten, age 65, of Butler, Missouri passed away on February 25th, 2015. He was born on May 24th, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Lillie and the late Dr. Robert G. Hatten. The small family moved to Butler when he was two weeks old. He was a graduate of Butler High School and the Cleveland Chiropractic College, serving patients across Bates County and beyond for over 39 years.

"Dr. Rob" loved to work with his hands. He was a healer to his patients, always putting others' needs first. That same spirit spread to his love of the local community. He served as Chairman of the Butler Planning Commission, President of the Butler Lions Club, and participated in numerous community and fraternal organizations including the Butler Masonic Lodge and Ararat Shrine, in addition to serving state and national chiropractic boards.

His favorite times were spent with family. On his days off he could be found outdoors golfing, fishing, and working on various DIY projects including building golf clubs. His favorite place was out at "the farm," working around and fixing up the cottage, and checking his traps to see if he caught the latest pesky otter burrowing in the earthen dam at the pond.

Rob is survived by his mother, Lillie; his wife of 25 years, Sally Hatten; four children: Elisabeth Jump, Robert Christopher Hatten and wife Ali, Alex Ruthmann and wife Anne, and Nicholas Ruthmann; three grandchildren: Shelby, Seraphim, and Amelia; sisters Marianna Hatten, Martha Bledsoe and husband Larry; brother-in-law Steve Brown; niece Abrielle Flavin and husband Mike, and nephew Tyler Thornton.

He is loved and missed by his family, many friends, patients, and the community he served.

Weather Update: Couple rounds of accumulating snow this weekend

Accumulating snow expected over the weekend will likely arrive in two rounds. Round #1 will be Saturday morning to Saturday night, which is when the majority of the snowfall expected. Then there could be a break in the snow before a secondary band sets up Sunday morning. Sunday's snowfall will be a bit lighter, with only another inch or two of accumulation expected through the afternoon hours. This snow will make travel through the weekend rather treacherous, so be safe and plan ahead!

Something new near Amsterdam

Work is nearly complete on a railroad crossing upgrade on Y highway, about a mile north of Amsterdam. The new equipment includes crossing arms, overhead lights and enhanced bell/audio warning system.

This particular intersection has been deemed especially dangerous because of an adjacent curve in the roadway and limited sight distance in both directions. Mary Redmond, of Linn Valley, Kansas and John South, of Amsterdam, Missouri were killed when their vehicle was struck by a train here in 2009.

The project is part of some 7,000 crossings in Missouri to receive upgrades through this year.
