Attempt to locate stolen truck out of Cass County

2001 Gold Ford 250 7.3 Diesel stolen on 3/8/15 from parking lot of Home Depot in Belton, Missouri. Owners James and Erin Newport of Adrian,Mo. They can call Belton Police or local police license plate number 83B 5AB they are farmer tags so only a front plate.

Osceola man facing felony drug charge

On March 12, Patrick Lessley, 53, Osceola, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with class B felony charge of possessing of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. 

The charge stems from an investigation conducted by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force on March 11 at Lessley’s residence on SE 269 Private Road, Osceola. 


During the investigation methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia was located. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Obituary - Jean Salmon Davis

Funeral services for Jean Salmon Davis will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2015 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Mercy Hospice or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. 

Norma Jean Davis, age 86 of Buffalo, Missouri died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born April 29, 1928 to George Ottoa and Florence Leona Austin Portwood in Kansas City, Missouri.

Norma is survived by her son, Calvin Salmon and wife connie of Buffalo, Missouri; two sisters, Pat Bennett and husband Tom of Warsaw, Missouri and Margie Jackson and husband Ronnie of Appleton City, Missouri; three granddaughters, Vickie Hannah and husband Matt of Butler, Missouri, Angela Wishne and husband Kirk of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Amanda Salmon of Buffalo, Missouri; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Kermit; second husband Gene; and two sisters, Bonnie Congers and Shirley Hough.

Apply now for 4-H scholarships

The Missouri 4-H Foundation offers educational scholarships for 4-H youth and former 4-H members pursuing post-secondary study. Sixty scholarships are available, each ranging from $500 to $2,500. One scholarship application permits the applicant to be considered for any available scholarship, subject to conditions specified by the donor.

Applications are now being accepted and are due with a postmark date of April 1 to the state 4-H office. Scholarship applications are due at your local Extension Office by March 20th. After county approval and signature, your application will be mailed to the state 4-H office by the county.

Scholarship guidelines
• High school applicants must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Home-school youth must submit ACT or SAT scores. College applicants must have at least a GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
• The scholarship must be used within 9 months after awarded. (Applicant must be enrolled in school).
• A word processor must be used to complete the application. Use plain white 8 ½ x 11” paper with 1 inch margins. Use a font no smaller than 12-pitch. Single-space within each answer and double-space between questions.

Scholarship selection criteria
The Missouri 4-H Foundation scholarship application form should be completed and must include:
• Signature of applicant and 4-H/Extension staff
• High school/college transcript (must include GPA and can be unofficial) or ACT/SAT scores for home schooled youth
• Financial information page completed by parent/guardian

REMINDER: Casino Night next Saturday Night

BATES COUNTY, Mo - Make your plans to attend the 8th annual Bates County Casino Night on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Adrian Optimist Building. Social hour will be from 6:30 – 7:30 and the Casino will be open from 7:30 – 10:00pm. With your $25.00 admission ticket your dinner and drinks will be included, but you must be 21 to attend and have a ticket to enter. All proceeds will benefit the Bates County Children’s Center.

The Children’s Center of SW MO has provided advocacy services to over 11,000 children since opening in 1997 in twelve southwest Missouri Counties. Services are available to all children regardless of religion, race, disability, national origin or ancestry and at no charge to the families.

There will be live mouse races, plinko, and raffles along with Blackjack, Craps and Poker and join in the fun of a live auction after the Casino closes.

Tickets may be purchased from Jami at the Bates County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Children’s Center Committee or at the Juvenile Office. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Butler Baseball Field Improvements

BUTLER, Mo - Local advertising dollars went to good use Wednesday afternoon, as Butler Parks and Recreation Crews spent the day at the Butler Baseball Field on Nursery Street placing 5 truckloads of dirt on the baseball fields.
The annual purchase of advertising banners allows improvements throughout the year in City Parks.

The Parks and Recreation Department would like to express their thanks to local businesses that support the Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Butler.
