House fire in Clinton yesterday

At 11:19 a.m., Wednesday April 1, the Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 210 East Ohio St. Upon arrival, Firefighters reported heavy fire and smoke conditions at the rear of the residence. A second and third alarm was requested for additional personnel to respond.

The fire started on the exterior patio area and quickly burned up the exterior wall and into the first floor portion of the residence and into the attic space. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire on the first floor and exterior and then began trying to get into the attic area.

Firefighters encountered zero visibility and high heat conditions on the second floor but were able to make entry into the attic space and begin extinguishing the fire in the attic.

Firefighters were on scene until approximately 4:30 p.m., extinguishing hot spots. The residents were not home at the time the fire started and the Clinton Fire Department reported no injuries to any Fire Department personnel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the assistance of the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Clinton man arrested

On April 1,  Christopher Fitzpatrick, Jr, 20, Clinton, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant for failing to appear in court on six misdemeanor charges of passing a bad check with value less than $500. 

The warrant was issued on March 5 and stems from incidents in July 2014. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Lamar man arrsted

On April 1, Gregory White, 28, Lamar, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class D felony of non support, total arrears in excess of 12 monthly payments due under order of support. The warrant was issued March 23 and stems from an incident in May 2013. Bond is set at $2,500 cash only.

Appleton City city wide garage sale

City Wide Garage Sales are set for Saturday, April 18, 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Get your permit at City Hall April 1 – April 13. You must purchase a $5 permit to hold a garage sale in Appleton City. The two day permit is for April 17 and 18. Your day(s) will be designated on the map. 

“House of Joy” will again be at the city park 3:00-5:00 p.m. that Saturday to pick up your donations.

Nevada teen arrested in connection to a burglary case

A Nevada teen has been arrested in connection to a burglary case in Nevada. Nevada Police Department Officials says, Nevada PD have concluded an investigation into a burglary and stealing case that occurred in Nevada. Officials say, Officers were dispatched on February 28th to a report of theft that occurred at an assisted living facility located in the 600 block of Highland Street. 

The victim reported a safe containing personal paper's, mementos, and cash was taken from the private room of a recently deceased tenant. Officers have taken 18 year old Gary Fenton, of Nevada, into custody. Fenton was arrested at a residence in the 700 block of East Lee Street. Officials say, at the time of the arrest, another subject identified as a juvenile male was taken into custody for juvenile related offenses and turned over to the custody of Juvenile Officers. 

Fenton is being charged with the class C felony of Burglary in the 2nd degree and the class C felony of stealing. He is being held in the Vernon County Jail. Bond has been set at $10,000.00 cash or surety. One person injured in Henry County crash

One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident on April 1 in Henry County on Rt. Z west of Rt. BB.

Franklin A. Keith, 23, Deepwater, wearing a seat belt, was eastbound in a 2014 Chevrolet. The Keith vehicle struck in the rear a John Deere 4230 tractor being operated eastbound by Casey D. Higgins, 41, Deepwater. The Higgins tractor traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturn with Higgins ejected.

Subsequently, the tractor continued traveling under its own power, returned to the roadway, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a barb wire fence. The tractor then traveled into a field and struck another barb wire fence, returned to the roadway, traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a mail box, struck a tree and came to a rest in a ditch.

Casey D. Higgins experienced serious injuries and was airlifted to Research Medical Center. The tractor was totaled and secured roadside. The Keith vehicle was totaled and removed from the scene by Golden Valley wrecker.

Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper T.R. Wright investigated the accident and was assisted by Corporal R. C. West, Trooper E.C. Rodenberg and the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.

Large Grass Fire in Cass County

The Central Cass Fire Department along with several other agencies are on scene of a large grass fire on 2 Highway just East of State Line Road. 


At this time there is reportedly over 100+ acres on fire, Several crews are on scene and unknown at this time of structures that are in the path of this fire.

We do know that the railroad is shut down due to fire on both sides of the tracks at this time.
