Scholarships Awarded to 4-H and FFA Youth

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced today that 32 youth, selected from Missouri 4-H and FFA, will be awarded scholarships by the Missouri State Fair Foundation Youth in Agriculture (YIA) committee. These students are seeking higher education in agriculture-related fields, and will receive their scholarships Friday, April 17, during the annual State FFA Convention in Columbia.

“The Youth in Agriculture tradition financially assists Missouri’s next generation of agriculture leaders with their educations,” Wolfe said. “Gracious agricultural supporters, who give back year after year, make these scholarships possible.”

The scholarships are funded by the Missouri State Fair Foundation and by YIA supporters at the 2014 Sale of Champions; a list of those supporters and auction results is available on the Fair’s website.

Bears vs Blackhawks Track Results

by Aaron Allen

Last Thursday the Butler Bears Track Team traveled to Adrian. We have been extremely lucky with the weather and the athletes are putting up good times. With golf and minor injuries happening we were at half squad for this meet. When meets like this happen, it allows others kids to step up and play bigger roles on our team. I thought everyone responded well with the last minute adjustments. The Butler Bears took an overall of 3rd place.

Here are the athletes who helped their team score points in that 3rd place finish:
100m Dash – Ben Holt – 5th place
400m Dash – Tanner Diehl – 2nd place
110m Hurdles – Connor Sparks – 6th place
300m Hurdles – Devan Loveall – 1st place with a new PR time of 42.63, Connor Sparks – 4th place
4×100 Relay – 2nd place – Seth Stump, Dylan Morris, Ben Holt, Kaleb Kauffman
4×200 Relay – 1st place with a time of 1:35.52- Devan Loveall, Dylan Morris, Tanner Diehl, Kaleb Kauffman
4×400 Relay – 3rd place – Devan Loveall, Ethan Gardner, Tanner Diehl, Dylan Morris
4×800 Relay – 8th place – Bram Hubbard, Reid Davis, Tayje VanVoorst, Aziah VanVoorst
High Jump – Kaleb Kauffman – 5th place
Pole Vault – 1st place with a vault of 11’3″ – Ethan Gardner, Brett Behringer – 6th place
Long Jump – Kaleb Kauffman – 4th place
Triple Jump – Dylan Morris – 8th place
Shot Put – Ben Holt – 4th place, Zeph Smith – 5th place
Discus Throw – Zeph Smith – 6th place

Overall, the kids did really well with some of them moving into different positions. We hope to continue this type of success throughout the middle part of our season. The next track meet is on Tuesday the 7th at Cass Midway. Field events will start at 3:45 and running events at 4:00.
