Obituary - Donna Lynn Woods

Donna Lynn Woods, 58, Archie, Missouri, died April 13, 2015 at the Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, Missouri, with inurnment in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Harvesters Food Pantry or the American Diabetes Association.

Donna was born, the youngest of three siblings, on March 31, 1957 in Butler Missouri to Calvin and Rosie Lee (Eneff) Webb. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1975. Donna enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets. She also enjoyed the activities of her grandson, such as baseball games and rodeos.

Donna was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by two sons, Bodie Woods of Archie, Missouri and Bryan Woods of Butler, Missouri; mother, Rosie Lee LaForte of Adrian, Missouri; brother, Mike Webb (Barbara) of Butler, Missouri; sister, Linda Witt of Garden City, Missouri; 7 grandchildren and one on the way.

Should we worry about Powassan virus?

It's not like you already don't have enough to worry about, but talk about the Powassan virus is making it's way around social media like wildfire. Should you be concerned? Yes, if you live in the far Northeastern part of the United States. Powassan virus can be contracted within minutes of a tick bite and can present symptoms similar to those of Lyme disease. In addition, victims of the  are particularly susceptible to neurological damage through encephalitis, or inflammation of the brain. There is no known cure or treatment. 

Now that's scary.

Some good news, please? There are no reported cases of Powassan virus in Missouri, Kansas or neighboring states. So far.

Black legged ticks, like the one shown here are famous for carrying Lyme disease but also carry the Powassan virus and researchers working steadfastly to find a solution. In the meantime, carry on with your outdoor fun, just slather on a good helping of DEET based tick repellent.

Results of Butler Jr. High track meet yesterday

The Butler Junior High Track Team traveled to Archie on Monday April 13th to compete in the Archie Invitational on a cool, windy day. This was our 1st regular format track meet and we competed very well finishing 6th out of 15 teams in the boys division and 7th in the girls division out of 14 teams. Many of the athlete’s set new personal records in their events! The following are point winners for the meet:

Girls Division:

BCMH now offering Patient Channel to further health education

Bates County Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the availability of The Patient Channel to all of our hospital patients before, during, and after their hospital stay. The Patient Channel delivers award-winning health education video programming on hospital televisions and via an online portal to help educate patients on their health conditions and prepare them for transitioning back home.

The Patient Channel provides informative and accessible programming on a variety of health conditions, including cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and more. Topics such as communicating with your doctor, staying safe while in the hospital, managing medicines, and self-care at home are also covered. Patients can watch programming 24/7 on their in-room hospital television, or on their own internet-enabled mobile devices.

All content on the Patient Channel is overseen and reviewed by a Medical Advisory Board which works diligently to ensure that all content is clinically accurate and presented in an engaging and easy-to-understand way for patients and their families.

Miami baseball game changes for today...

Attention players and parents:

Tonight's Baseball game between Miami and Adrian has been moved to Adrian due to unplayable field conditions at Miami. They will play two  five inning games.

Note- Softball WILL STILL BE PLAYING AT MIAMI-first pitch 4:30 PM

The Butler Junior High Track Team traveled to Cass Midway on Friday to compete in the Cass Midway HS/JH Combo Invitational. This was an exciting meet for us with many outstanding performances! The Bates County Sheriff's Office has a limited number of these signs free to residents of Bates County to mark your rural property. 

Stop by the Sheriff's Office Monday - Friday between 8 am and 4 pm to pick up your sign from Jami.
