Beech-Nut baby food recalled because it may contain pieces of glass

NEW YORK — Baby food made by a New York company and sold nationwide is being recalled because the jars may be contaminated by tiny shards of glass, the company said.

A customer called Beech-Nut Nutrition to say they found a small piece of glass in a jar of Stage 2 Beech-Nut Classics, alerting the company to the problem.

Beech-Nut Nutrition, based in Amsterdam, N.Y., said it has received at least one report of an oral injury connected to the food.

“Outside of this single report, we have no indication that any other jar of our Classics Stage 2 Sweet Potato & Chicken is affected, but as a company of parents and families we are acting with an abundance of caution,” the company said in a statement.

The recall includes 4-ounce jars of Stage 2 Beech-Nut Classics sweet potato and chicken produced on Dec. 12, 2014, and marked with the product numbers 12395750815 through 12395750821, the company said.

The jars are emblazoned by the establishment number “P-68A” inside the USDA mark of inspection and they expire in December 2016. Those jars of food are meant for kids 6 months and older.

Anyone who bought an affected jar of baby food can bring it to the store where they bought it for a refund or replacement, the company said.

Customers can call Beech-Nut’s consumer hotline at 866-674-4446 with any questions.

Giving Fore Living for Donor Awareness Month: Kevin Jacobs

Kevin Jacobs: a Donor Legacy

The Giving Fore Living Committee would like to honor Kevin Jacobs this week in our article. Kevin Jacobs, the 24-year-old son of Stewart and Kerrie Jacobs of Butler, Missouri and Toni and Eldo Eaglen of Milan, MO loved spending time with his fiancé Kaycee Trevino and their beautiful daughter, Keylee Jacobs. Kevin became an organ donor at a very young age. On August 30, 2014, he was pronounced brain dead from injuries sustained in an ATV accident. Even though this was a tragic loss for his family, his donation of his organs saved the lives of 5 people. He also gave the gift of sight as well as bone, bone marrow, veins and skin to as many as 50 people. Through his gift of life, he lives on in the people he saved and in the memories of his family and friends.

The third annual banquet will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, at the Adrian Optimist Building in Adrian, MO. The golf tournament will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 and Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the Butler Country Club in Butler, MO. Please join us in celebration of his life and help promote the gift of life through organ donation.
