Butler City Wide Garage Sale

Get ready for Butler Chamber of Commerce’s City Wide Garage Sale which will be held on Saturday, May 2nd.

If you plan to participate in the garage sale, signups are available at the Chamber of Commerce office on the Butler Square at 15 North Main Street.


Participants must pay a $10 fee for a permit and map listing. To be on the map, the deadline to sign up is Monday, April 27th.

City Wide Garage sale maps will be available at a later date

Merwin Christian Church Youth Group BBQ fundraiser

The Merwin Christian Church Youth Group will be having a BBQ fundraiser April 26th from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Drexel City Park. There is going to be BBQ chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, several sides, and dessert. 

Along with the BBQ there will be LIVE MUSIC and a SILENT AUCTION. 

The auction will have homemade pies and other items for people to bid on.

Bates County Dog Rescue Bake Sale

The Bates County Dog Rescue is having a bake sale to raise funds for the program this Saturday at Leona's Mini Mart in Amsterdam.

The bake sale will be from 11 am to 3 pm or until we sell out. 

Come visit us for some goodies and support this local dog rescue!

Nevada Fugitive arrested after brief foot chase

A Nevada fugitive has been arrested by Nevada Police Department. Nevada Police Department Officials say, 50 year old Larry Fenton, Sr. has been taken into custody. Officials say, Fenton was spotted by Nevada Police during an investigative surveillance operation on Tuesday. 

As Detectives approached, Fenton fled the area on foot. Detectives were able to locate him after a brief foot chase, taking him into custody without incident. 

Fenton was wanted as a fugitive probation and parole absconder. He is being held in the Vernon County Jail, with no bond as an absconder.

Nevada man arrested on assault charges

A Nevada man has been arrested on assault charges. Nevada Police Department Officials say, they have concluded the investigation into an assault case that occurred in the 400 block of North Elm in Nevada. Officials say, on Sunday, Officers were dispatched to a report of an alleged stabbing on the street. Reports indicate the victim was allegedly stabbed in the side during a personal dispute, that led to violence. 

The victim was treated by medical personnel, and later released from a local hospital. Officials say, Police Detectives developed investigative leads which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Detectives took 38 year old Raymond McBride into custody without incident. McBride is charged with the class B felony of assault in the 1st degree and the class D felony of unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held in the Vernon County Jail. Bond has been set at $50,000.00 cash or surety

Missouri State Highway Patrol Arrest Report: Butler man arrested

On 4/15/15 around 10:25 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 33 year old Buford A. Turner of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Turner was arrested for 1.) Driving while intoxicated 2.) Driving while suspended. 


He was taken to The Bates County Memorial Hospital and later released.

Nevada Police Department: Burglary Investigation Complete

The Nevada Police Department would like to announce that we have concluded an investigation of a burglary case that occurred in the area of the 1200 block of N. Elm St. on April 9th, 2015. A report was received by police alleging that a known Probation and Parole absconder had unlawfully entered the home of a former domestic partner, holding her against her will and threatening injury. The victim was able to escape the confinement of the residence, running to a neighbor's home and the neighbor assisted in calling Nevada Police.

Multiple patrol officers and detectives responded to the scene to find that the suspect had fled the scene to avoid police contact. The suspect was identified as 44 year old, Lavern S Hill Jr.

Investigators from the Nevada Police Dept, and the VCSO began developing investigative leads in hopes to affect an arrest. All regional law enforcement agencies were notified of the suspects fugitive status on April 14th.


Hill was taken into custody by Cedar County law enforcement. He has since been returned to the Vernon County Jail where he is being held without bond on the parole violation. The Vernon County Associate Circuit Court has also filed charges for Burglary, and False Imprisonment, and Property Damage.
