Minor Traffic Accident on I-49

The Butler Fire Department along with The Missouri State Highway Patrol is in route to a 2 vehicle accident on Interstate I-49 around Mile Marker 129.

The accident is involving a truck that has been side swiped by a semi truck. Bates County EMS is in route to scene just to check out the children in the vehicle just for safety precautions.


Mid America Live will update this when and if more information becomes available. 


The accident is minor so we are unsure if an additional information will be announced.

Nevada man arrested after assault with a whiskey bottle

The Nevada Police Department would like to announce that we have concluded an investigation of a felony assault case that occurred on April 28th, 2015. Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of W. Godfrey Lane in reference to an assault that had just occurred.

Responding Police Officers discovered an unconscious male subject lying in the yard of the residence. The victim appeared to have sustained head injuries that rendered him unresponsive. Police provided emergency first aid to the victim until medics arrived on scene.

Investigating Officers determined that a male suspect, known to the victim had fled the scene prior to law enforcement arrival. Witness’s advised officers on the scene that the victim had received multiple head wounds after being assaulted with a glass whisky bottle. The victim was transported by Vernon County Ambulance to the Nevada Regional Airport where he was transported to a medical facility by helicopter.

Nevada Police Officers began searching for the suspect and were able to locate him at an area hospital where he was receiving treatment for minor injuries. After obtaining investigative leads, police arrested the suspect without incident.

The assault suspect was identified as a 31 year old Nevada resident: Kenneth L Biles Jr. Biles was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Jail.

An Arrest Warrant was issued by the Vernon County Associate Circuit Court on the following charge:

Assault 1st Degree, a class B Felony.

Biles is being held in lieu of a $50,000 cash or surety bond.

Crises Intervention Team has 2 new members

Two local law enforcement officers have recently completed Crises Intervention Training and joined the local CIT Coordinating Council. Nevada Police Officer Justin Varner and Vernon County Sheriff's Deputy Nick Norval recently returned after completing an intensive week of CIT training, conducted at the Lee Summit, Missouri Police Department. 

These newly trained CIT Team members join other Nevada Police Officers and Vernon County Deputies who serve along with the CIT Coordinating Council. The Council consists of several community partners working in the mental health career field, consumers and their families. The focus of the group is to serve the needs of the entire area in a more efficient manner, while offering guidance to Local Law Enforcement.

The CIT Course is forty hours of training and includes instruction in the following topics: overview of metal illness, medication management and identification; de-escalation techniques; steps to prevent suicide; family and consumer panels; site visits; and cultural diversity.

Upon graduation, the officers are awarded a certificate of completion and a special uniform insignia which designates them as specially trained.

Police Chief Graham Burnley states, "The CIT Team continues to serve our community with a professional response to a mental health crisis. I'm proud of these officers taking on more responsibility and helping in a positive fashion."

St.Clair County Sheriffs Office: Burglary Report

On Tuesday, evening April 28, a St. Clair County deputy took a burglary report on NE 50 Road, Osceola. Dan Purdy reported several pieces of jewelry missing from his residence. The next morning, Yvonne Purdy reported they also noticed other items missing. She said a white, 1992 Pontiac Firebird convertible with a black top, was missing along with a .357 caliber handgun and holster.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Lees Summit woman arrested

On April 28, Loren Hernandes, 18, Lee’s Summit, was arrested at the St. Clair County Jail on a Carroll County warrant charging her with a class A misdemeanor of property damage-second degree. 

Bond is set at $5,000 with 10 percent cash allowed.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office: Osceola woman arrested

On April 28, Jami Faulkner, 44, Osceola, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging her with a class C felony of possessing a controlled substance. 

The charge stems from traffic stop by the Osceola Police Department on April 26. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Obituary - Hugh Edward Tiedeman

Hugh Edward Tiedeman, 82, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Peculiar, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:00. 

Burial will be in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Center, Peculiar.
