Garden City Police find meth in van

At approximately 1:00 am this morning officers of the Garden City Police Department checked a Unknown van in the 100 block of Park Avenue occupied by a male and a female. 

A check of the occupants resulted in both occupants being arrested for possession of Methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The female occupant also had multiple warrants from another jurisdiction. Both subjects are being held in the Cass County Jail.

Butler man arrested in Cass County

On 5/5/15 around 8:45 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County arrested 23 year old Christopher J. Pickens of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Pickens was arrested on 1.) Driving while intoxicated (Drugs) 2.)Possession of up to 35 grams of Marijuana 3.) Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia 4.) No valid drivers license 5.) Registration Violation 6.) No safety belt.


He was booked into the Cass County Jail and later released.

BCMH Employee of the Month -May

Betty Reinke is recognized as the Bates County Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for May, 2015.

Betty has been employed at BCMH since 1987 and works full time in the Purchasing Department. She always has a smile for everyone and is always helpful. 


Betty is respected by her coworkers and recognized as an employee with a strong work ethic.

IRS Scam going around Adrian

Mid America Live was contacted by Adrian Police Chief Chris Dillon in regards to a IRS Scam that is going around the Adrian, Missouri area.

Chief Dillon would like send this warning out to everyone in the area.

Warning: There is a IRS phone scam calling residents of Adrian claiming this is the last attempt before a lawsuit is to come. The number it is coming from is 1-202-864-1229. I Chief Dillon have called this number to speak with them and was promptly disconnected. My return calls were not answered. 


If the IRS would be attempted to contact you it would come by mail and registered letter and if they did call the return number would be most likely be a toll free number.

Nevada man arrested on felony child abuse charges

A Nevada man has been arrested on felony child abuse charges in Vernon County. Nevada Police Department Officials say, Nevada PD have concluded an investigation of a child abuse case that occurred on Sunday in Nevada. Officials say, officers received information pertaining to an assault of a special needs, 8 year old child by a male suspect in the 300 block of North Ash Street. Reports indicate, a concerned citizen who witnessed the incident, reported the assault in detail, describing how the suspect cursed at the boy and threw the child to the ground, while standing in the yard of a home on North Ash. The child was bruised, but received no life threatening injuries. Investigators from Nevada PD and the Missouri Children's Division, developed investigative leads, recovered physical evidence, and made contact with the suspect at the probation and parole office. 

Officials say, 30 year old Douglas Starbuck, Jr. has been taken into custody without incident. Starbuck is charged with the class C felony of abuse or neglect of a child. He is being held in the Vernon County Jail. Bond has been set at $10,000.00 cash or surety.

Obituary - Nancy Lee Hunholz

Nancy Lee Hunholz, 75, Archie, Missouri, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Adrian Christian Church in Adrian, Missouri with visitation from 1:00-3:00. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Heartland Hospice.

Vernon County Sheriffs Office Press Release: Deputy injured, one in custody after Monday night pursuit

One person is in custody after a vehicle pursuit that left one driver, and a deputy with minor injuries as well as damage to a Sheriff’s Office vehicle late Monday night.
According to a press release from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Chaz L Stone, 22 of Milo was taken into custody shortly after the pursuit ended in the area of 2600 and Quantrill Rd where the driver then fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the driver avoided custody by running into a wooded area where deputies lost sight of him. Deputies then began following up on leads as to the name and location of the driver and made contact with area residents. A short time later the driver was taken into custody when he turned himself in. No serious injuries were reported and the deputy has returned to full-duty.
Warrants were issued on Tuesday for Stones arrest charging him with felony charges of: Resisting Arrest/Stop By Fleeing, Property Damage 1st Degree, and Leaving the Scene of A Motor Vehicle Accident as well as several misdemeanor warrants including: Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Careless and Imprudent Driving, Exceeding Posted Speed Limit, Failure to Register Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility. The Missouri State Highway Patrol also responded to the incident.

Stone is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $6,500 cash only bond.
