Obituary - Doris Jean Long

Doris Jean Long, of Rich Hill, passed away on Saturday, May 9th at her home in Rich Hill. She was 61. Arrangements are under the direction of Heuser Funeral Home. 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 23rd at the Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill.

Nevada man arrested on DWI Charges

On 5/10/15 around 7:30 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County Arrested 56 year old Christopher Monroe of Nevada, Missouri.

Mr. Monroe was arrested on 1.) DWI 2.) Following too closely. 


He was booked into the Vernon County Jail and his status is listed as Bond able.

One person injured in Benton County Crash

One person was injured in a one-vehicle accident on May 10 in Benton County on RT. MM at Steed Lane.

Johnathan J. Blybon, 17, Warsaw, wearing a seat belt, southbound in a 1987 Mazda, swerved to avoid another vehicle entering the roadway. The Blybon vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a 2010 Ford northbound by Walter W. Krupco, 62, Clinton, unknown at the time of this accident report whether he was wearing a seat belt.

Walter W. Krupco experienced minor injuries and was transported by Warsaw-Lincoln Ambulance to Golden Valley Hospital. His vehicle had extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Tolliver’s Towing. 

The Blybon vehicle had moderate damage and was driven from the scene. Johnathan J. Blybon had driver insurance through Progressive.

Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant N.K. Johnson investigated the accident and was assisted by the Benton County Sheriff’s Department

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Bates and Cass County

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Missouri has issued a Severe Thunderstorm watch for Bates and Cass County until 10 p.m. This evening.

Amoret woman escapes injury in Saline County Accident

On 5/9/15 around 12:20 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol along with the Saline County Sheriffs Office responded to a 3 vehicle accident on West bound I-70 at Mile Marker 77.

The accident occurred when the 2014 Volkswagen Passat driven by 28 year old Colby J. Salter of Columbia, Missouri and the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 29 year old Carli M. Nieder of Amoret, Missouri were slowing for traffic on Westbound I-70 when they was over taken and struck from behind by a 2003 Hyundai Elantra driven by 21 year old Erika L. Enlow of Columbia, Missouri.

Two of the vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The Volkswagen was driven from the scene.  

Erika L. Enlow received moderate injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene. No one else was injured.

2 vehicle accident in Butler


The Butler Police Department along with Bates County EMS and The Butler Fire Department is on scene of a 2 vehicle accident at Fran Avenue and Ft. Scott Street in Butler.

The accident is involving a Chevrolet truck driven by Steve Simmons (4/15/1952) of Eldorado Springs, Missouri and a Toyota car driven by James Allman (10/2/1957) of Topeka, Kansas.

No reports of injuries with this accident however there might be some traffic delays.

Walker man escapes serious injury in Vernon County accident

A Walker man escaped serious injury in a one vehicle accident Saturday morning in Vernon County. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 2:00 A.M. Saturday morning on Route AA, 3 miles South of Schell City, in Vernon County, involving a 2014 Dodge Dart driven by 22 year old Tony Micklich. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says, Mr. Micklich was traveling Northbound when he ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned. 

Mr. Micklich was listed with minor injuries and transported to Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs.
