McGennis Youth Center‏ in Rich Hill needing lifeguards

The opening of swim season at the McGennis Youth Center has been delayed. Traditionally swimming has opened at the Center on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. But this year the Center has been unable to find lifeguards. The Center's Board of Directors is still seeking lifeguard applications, and swimming will open when and if lifeguards can be hired.

If you are a certified lifeguard or know someone who is and would like part-time summer employment, contact the McGennis Youth Center at 417-484-3216. Also, if you are a strong swimmer and are interested in becoming certified, you should contact the Center.

Watch and listen to area news outlets for information about the opening of swimming in coming weeks. While the swim season is delayed, the rest of the McGennis Youth Center is open and offers a variety of outdoor recreational facilities: two shelter houses for picnics and cookouts, four cabins for camping, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts and fishing. Use of the camping cabins for groups and organizations is on a donation basis. For individuals wanting to use the cabins, the fee is $20 per night. Cabins can be used by individuals for a maximum of seven nights.

The Center also has two camper electricity hook-ups at a fee of $20 per night. The Center's Annual Fishing Derby is set for Sunday, June 7, with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Fishing Derby is open to children ages 3 through 15.

More details on the Fishing Derby will follow next week.
