Obituary - Shirley Joan Johnson

Shirley Joan Johnson
Shirley Joan Johnson, age 76, La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015. She was born on November 4, 1938 in Liberty Township, Linn County, Kansas the daughter of Lowring and Sylvia Hodgson Harold. She married Marion Johnson December 24, 1954. She worked at McGee Insurance and for Linn County Bank before retirement. She served as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers, Leslie, Brian and Lowring and a grand daughter Michelle. Joan is survived by a son Rick Johnson and wife Brenda, sister Maxine Holt, four grandchildren: Amy, Sylvia, Zachary and Heather and six great grandchildren: Trevor, Dylan, Lucy, River, Nathan and Isabella. 

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Burial will be in the Cadmus Cemetery. Eastern Star service will be held 5:30 p.m. Friday at the La Cygne Chapel followed by visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Contributions are suggested to the Joan Johnson Memorial Fund. Obituary - Charles A. Smith

Charles A. Smith, age 88, of Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Saturday May 23, 2015 at the Prescott Country View. He was born at Mound City, Kansas on January 31, 1927 the son of Ralph and Lucy Dingus Smith. He graduated form Pleasanton High School a furthered his education at Pittsburg State University obtaining a Bachelor''s Degree in Education and a Master''s Degree in Trade and Industrial Education. He married Bonnie Wilson on October 24, 1946 at the Linn County Courthouse. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked in education, spending most of his career in Leavenworth, Kansas teaching inmates a skilled trade or helping them obtain a G.E.D. He and wife Bonnie enjoyed traveling. He was a Webelo and 4-H leader, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, the Pleasanton HUD Housing Committee, a volunteer at the Linn County Museum, American Legion Hewitt New Post at Mound City, and the V.F.W. He enjoyed wood working, could fix most anything and even invented several useful gadgets and machines. 

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pleasanton Chapel. Contributions are suggested to PSU Foundation, College of Technology. Driver falls asleep causing wreck in Henry County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with the Henry County Sheriffs Office responded to a 1 vehicle accident on Missouri 7 Highway just North of NW Country Road 701 in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred around 10:05 p.m. last night when the driver of the 2007 Nissan Frontier 25 year old Joseph P. Wilson of Olathe, Kansas fell asleep at the wheel and hit a guardrail. 


Mr. Wilson received moderate injuries in this accident and was take by private vehicle to UNK Hospital. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Golden Valley Wrecker Service.

Henry County Sheriffs Office: Robbery and assault being investigated

On Saturday, May 23, 2015 at approximately 8:18 p.m. Deputy Charles Wilcox and Deputy Brady Graham of the Henry County Sheriffs Office responded to the 800 block of SE 523 Private Road in rural Henry County on a possible assault.

At the scene, deputies discovered that the property owner had been assaulted, tied up and several items were missing from the home. The victim was transported from the scene by Golden Valley Ambulance.

Detective Sgt. Mike Nelson along with Sheriff Oberkrom and Major Hills also responded to the scene to investigate the incident. The investigation is continuing at this time.

Mapleton, Kansas man injured in early morning Vernon County Crash

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a 1 vehicle accident around 6:20 a.m. this morning on Route FF - 2 miles East of Garland, Kansas in rural Vernon County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2014 Dodge Ram driven by 35 year old Donald S. Million of Bronaugh, Missouri was East bound when he ran off the right side of the roadway, Over Corrected causing the vehicle to go off the left side of the roadway, striking a culvert and overturning.


A passenger in the vehicle 24 year old Ian Perry of Mapleton, Kansas received minor injures in this accident and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Ft. Scott, Kansas. 


Mr. Million wasn't injured in this accident, The truck was totaled and towed from the scene by TCB Towing of Nevada, Missouri.

Kenneth L. Routen passed away May 24, 2015 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.

Funeral Services are pending with the Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler and will be announced when the information becomes available.

Charges issued for rural Nevada man

Joshua L. Schnedler
Charges have been issued for a rural Nevada man after Deputies responded to a call of “shots fired” in the Milo area Saturday afternoon. 

Joshua L Schnedler, 34, has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Armed Criminal Action after allegedly firing a weapon during a verbal dispute at a residence in Milo Saturday. 

Mr. Schnedler is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.
