Minnesota woman escapes serious injury in Vernon County Crash

A Minnesota resident escaped serious injury in a one vehicle accident Wednesday night in Vernon County. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at 11:55 P.M. Wednesday night on I-49, 1 mile South of Milo, in Vernon County, involving a 2015 Freightliner driven by 56 year old Joyce Wilson, of Elgin, Minnesota. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when  Wilson was traveling Northbound when she ran off the side of the roadway and overturned. 

Wilson was listed with minor injuries and transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada. 

A passenger, 60 year old Mary Bennett, of St. Augustine, Florida, was listed with minor injuries and transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada. 

Nevada man seriously injured in early morning crash

A Nevada man was seriously injured in a two vehicle accident Thursday morning in Vernon County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck happened just before 12:40 A.M. Thursday morning on I-49, 1 mile South of Milo, in Vernon County, involving a 1992 Chevy 1500 driven by 40 year old Billy Shepherd. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred as Mr. Shepherd was driving Northbound when he struck the rear of a 2005 Freightliner Tractor Trailer driven by 48 year old Roman Sanchez, of Tamaolipas, Mexico, who was stopped for a previous crash. 

Billy Shepherd was listed with serious injuries and transported to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Sanchez was listed with no injury.

Requirements include basic computer skills, a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, phone, capable of working under pressure, and able to multitask. Successful candidates must be available for night, overnight, and weekend hours. Benefits include paid holidays, sick leave and vacation time, Health insurance is available.

Police warn public to lock cars in Harrisonville

The Harrisonville Police Department has had several reports of thefts from vehicles the past few weeks. Most of these thefts occurred in the Harrisonville Elementary School area. 

Please let this serve as a reminder to not leave valuables in you vehicle and to secure your vehicle at all times.

James “Jim” Earl Minnick, 83, Blue Springs, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to VAL, (Veterans Auxiliary League, Missouri Veterans Home, 1300 Veterans Rd., Warrensburg, MO 64093).

Mike Thomas
Mike Thomas of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, May 30, 2015 at his home.  Mike was born September 8, 1955 in Joplin, Missouri to William Harold and Norma Claudine Lee Thomas. Mike's wishes were to be cremated and there will be no public services at this time. 

Mike is survived by two sons, Tyler Thomas and Michael Thomas Jr both of Butler, Missouri; a daughter, Latisha Thomas of Fulton, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Pam Thomas.
