Circuit Court of Bates County warns of telephone scam

Circuit Court Officials have been notified that area citizens are receiving calls from a person or persons identifying themselves as sheriff’s department personnel. The caller claims that a warrant exists for the arrest of the citizen due to the citizen’s failure to appear for Jury Duty. The caller then instructs the citizen to purchase a money card and call them back with that information on that card to pay for their bond. Be advised that no such warrants have been issued by any Court in the 27th Circuit.

Please contact law enforcement officers if you have received any telephone requests to send money in any form for alleged bonds. Any questions regarding jury duty should be directed to the circuit clerk’s office.

Police still searching for Clinton Man Wanted on Multiple Felony Warrants

 Joseph Daugherty
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office is continuing the search for a Clinton man wanted for multiple felony warrants in St. Clair County. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for 33 year old Joseph Daugherty, of Clinton. Daugherty is charged with a class A felony of kidnapping, a class B felony of burglary in the first degree, and a class D felony of resisting arrest by fleeing. The charges stem from an early morning incident last Tuesday.

Officials say, St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a residence on E Highway, in reference to a domestic assault in progress. Reports indicate, as deputies were responding to the scene, new information as received that Daugherty had left the residence in a vehicle. Deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle, however Daugherty was able to elude deputies. At the scene, it was reported to deputies, that Daugherty was an ex-live-in-boyfriend of a female living at the residence, of which he allegedly entered, carrying a hand gun, threatening to shoot the family members, and attempted to abduct a female.

Additional charges are pending on Daugherty following an incident on Friday, in which a St. Clair County deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle on E Highway. The vehicle was able to elude deputies and ended up in a motor vehicle accident on Southwest 101 Road, before the driver fled into the woods. Evidence was located inside the vehicle that identified Daugherty as the driver of the vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the location of Daugherty is asked to call the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Tip Line at 417-646-5832.

The St. Clair County Sheriff Office remind area residents to be aware of the traffic in your area. If you see a suspicious vehicle in your community, attempt to get a license place number, as well as a vehicle description, and a description of the person or persons in the vehicle.
