Two vehicle accident East of Nevada sends man to hospital

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a 2 vehicle accident this morning around 11:55 a.m. one mile East of Nevada on K Highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2000 Chevrolet S-10 driven by 16 year old Aaron K. Shumake of Lamar, Missouri pulled out of a private drive into the path of the 2004 Chevrolet 1500 driven by 66 year old Rickie L. Headley of Nevada Missouri.


Mr. Headley received moderate injuries in this accident and was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center. Both men were wearing seat belts and both vehicles were towed from the scene by Garwood Towing of Nevada, Missouri.

Armed Robbery suspect taken into custody after pursuit in Harrisonville

If you were out late last night you may have heard or seen Harrisonville officers involved in a pursuit through town. 

The pursuit was initiated due to an armed robbery of two local fireworks stands.

Harrisonville officers, working with Cass County Deputies, pursued the vehicle into the county where the subject was later taken into custody by CCSO deputies.

Charges are currently pending against the subject from the Cass County Sheriff's Office and Harrisonville Police.

Country music legend Joe Diffie played to a large crowd in the Rich Hill park this evening. The band played a wide range of original songs, classics, and some new favorites to an enthusiastic crowd for just under two hours.

Ray Kenneth Engelhardt, age 90 of Adrian, Missouri died Friday, July 3, 2015 at his home. He was born on the family farm on July 24, 1924 to William Fredrick and Ethel Lessee Haynes Engelhardt in rural Butler, Missouri.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna Lou Engelhardt of Adrian, Missouri; two sons, Steven Lynn Engelhardt and wife Elaine of Butler, Missouri and Charles Ray Engelgardt and wife Lawanda of Adrian, Missouri; one daughter, Babrara Ann Wainwright and husband David of Adrian, Missouri; a brother, Bill Engelhardt and wife Celia of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a sister, Helen Hill of Butler, Missouri; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

City of Butler Code on Fireworks

 Section 11-313 Article VI. Fireworks:

Bottle Rockets or other similar fireworks meaning any type of explosive device that launches more that 10 feet into the air or any solid material which is not designed to be completely consumed by combustion, deflagration and or detonation.

Fireworks mean explosive devices designed primarily to produce visible or audible effects by combustion, deflagration or detonation, including but not limiting the following Roman Candles, Skyrockets, Bottle Rockets, Salutes, Firecrackers, Torpedoes, Mines, Fountains, Flower Pots, Bombs, Pin Wheels, Blank Cartridges, Toy Gun other than a cap pistol or any other device or article loaded with combustible or inflammable material.



  • Section 11-132 Lawful Period for sales of fireworks:

It shall be unlawful to sell or transfer possession of any fireworks within the city limits of Butler, Missouri except during the period from June 27th - July 4th inclusive of any year.


  • Section 11-134 Permits required for sale and use of fireworks:

No person(s), group, business, enitity, charity or any other organization whatsoever shall engage in the sale of fireworks with in the City Limits of Butler Missouri unless and until they have obtained a permit to sell fireworks. The permit shall be obtained from the Mayor, at the discretion of the mayor, The fee for a permit is (10.50$) and you must provide the mayor with a affidavit or other good proof that the anticipated sale of fireworks will be conducted.

(B.) No person shall ignite or discharge any fireworks with in the city limits of Butler, Missouri on any day of the year except July 4th without express consent on the mayor.



  • Section 11-136 Use of Fireworks, Prohibited Practices:

It Shall be unlawful to:

(1.) Explode or ignite fireworks with in 100 ft of any church, hospital, asylum, nursing home facility or public school. Also within 100 feet of a Fireworks stand or a place where they are stored. You must stay atleast 50 ft away from with volatile solids, liquid or gases are stored including but not limited too service stations and grain facilities.

(2.) Ignite or discharging any article of fireworks within, or thrown from a motor vehicle and or attempting to throw into a vehicle or near any person or group of people is not allowed!

(3.) Ignite or discharging any article or firework upon any public street within the city


Section 11-137 Sale, Possession of prohibited fireworks:

(A.) No person shall sell/possess/discharge any ground salutes commonly known as " Cherry Bombs" or M-80s, M-100, M-1000 and various other types of tubular salutes which exceeds the limits set for a Class C common fireworks by the Department of Transportation for explosive composition.

(B.) No person sell or offer to sale/ give away or discharge ANY bottle rockets or similar devices in the city limits of Butler , Missouri without approval of the mayor.









Bates County Memorial Hospital: Ramona Snyder retires

After 20 years of combined service to Bates County Memorial Hospital, Ramona Snyder was honored with a retirement party on July 1, 2015. Ramona was employed in the Medical Records Department as an Accredited Records Technician from 1974 to 1978. She returned to the hospital in the Medical Records Department in 1999. In her capacity as a RHIT, Ramona performed medical transcription as well as other duties within the department. Whenever you see Ramona, you will always be greeted by a smiling face and a warm hello. Ramona has demonstrated exceptional work ethic and positive support to the hospital. While she will be greatly missed by her coworkers, Ramona is excited to enjoy the next phase of her life. She plans to be more involved with volunteer activities in the community and church as well as spending time with her family and friends. On behalf of the hospital and Board of Directors, Mr. Ed Hannon, CEO presented Ramona with an engraved retirement plaque. Rather than receiving the traditional clock as a retirement gift, Ramona asked that the money be donated to the Bates County Community Health Foundation (BCCHF).

On behalf of the Foundation, Mr. Shawn McVey presented a plaque to be hung on the wall in the hospital corridor displaying Ramona Snyder as the first name giving to the Foundation. The Foundation raises funds for health care scholarships, Trail of Memories, as well as providing financial support for the ImPACT Concussion Program to area schools. The BCCHF accepts charitable contributions that are tax deductible.
