Thomas Christopher Hartley, age 29, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015, 2:00 P.M. at Vansant Mills Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Thomas Hartley Memorial Fund, for his children, and may be left in care of the funeral home. Tommy was born to William and Terry (Decker) Hartley on August 28, 1986 in Independence, Missouri. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 2006, attended Tulsa Welding School, and completed a two year pipefitters apprenticeship. Tommy loved the "Blues" and played the guitar. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tommy enjoyed working with his chainsaw and welder. He loved all things "Harley Davidson". Tommy loved his friends, they were like his brothers and sister to him. He cherished his time with his wife and children. He was always willing to help anyone at anytime.

Tommy was preceded in death by his grandparents; step-father, Donald "Star" Hanks; and uncle, Bob Hartley.

He is survived by his wife Amanda (Kimzey) Hartley; sons, Gunner Keeran, Keegan Hartley, and Kayden Hartley; parents, Terry and Bill Hartley; sister, Tammi Shaffer; niece and nephew, Lyric and Chord Shaffer.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.

Nevada Police Department Make Arrests in Auto Theft

The Nevada Police Department reports that they have concluded an investigation resulting in an auto theft report and arrest that occurred in the 200 block of E. Floral. Investigating officers determined that on November 30th, at about 5:30pm, the driver of a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix parked the car and left the vehicle unlocked and the keys in the ignition. Returning moments later, the driver found the car gone and called police.

A subsequent search by law enforcement was conducted and Police located the stolen vehicle driving down the street at about 9:20 pm near Walnut and Washington Streets. The vehicle was under the control of three suspect occupants. Police stopped the stolen vehicle and took all three occupants into custody, recovered the stolen car, and later returned the vehicle to the owner. The three car thieves were identified as follows:
 

1. Bryor Richard Green – a 17 year old Nevada resident
2. William Ray Howard III – An 18 year old Nevada resident
3. Juvenile #1 – a 16 year old Juvenile from Springfield, Missouri

The adult subjects were booked into the County Jail. Arrest Warrants were issued on the two adults by the Vernon County Associate Court as follows:



  • Bryor Green - Tampering w/ a Motor Vehicle, 1st Degree, a Class C Felony – Held on $5,000 Cash or Surety bond
  • William Ray Howard III – Tampering w/a Motor Vehicle, 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor – Held on $1,000 Cash or Surety Bond
  • Juvenile #1 – Released to Juvenile Authorities.

Obituary - James Mason Hart

James Mason Hart, age 75, of Nevada, MO passed away November 29, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield after a very brief illness. He was born November 6, 1940 in Shelbina, MO, the son of Forrest Wayne and Lois Elizabeth (Rogers) Hart. He met his future wife, Rama Faye Campbell on a blind date in Nevada in November of 1962. They were married two years later on November 28, 1964 in Nevada. In 2014 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on an Alaskan Cruise.

In his youth, Jim lived in Hamilton and Osceola, MO and Corydon, IA. He graduated from Corydon High School in 1958. After a year of college he joined the United States Air Force serving our country from 1959 to 1963 both state side and abroad in England. In 1965 Jim began employment with the National Cash Register Company later known as NCR Corporation, as a field engineer in Topeka, KS. His twenty-eight years of NCR employment in both domestic and international venues as a Systems /Application engineer took him to many countries. In the mid-1970’s Jim and Rama lived in Tripoli, Libya where both worked for NCR. Upon returning to the United States they lived for twenty years in Wichita, KS, then Harrisonville before making Nevada their permanent home in 2004.

Jim was baptized in his early years and attended church in many places. Recently he had been attending services at the United Methodist Church in Nevada. In 2014 he received his 50 year Masonic pin and was an endowed member of the Osage Lodge #303. He was also a member of the Truman Club.

Jim’s interests were many and varied. For many years he owned Corvettes and loved driving and auto crossing them. After buying a place on Truman Lake he took up bass fishing. Woodworking was another talent that he possessed. In 1998 Jim and Rama bought their first motorhome and enjoyed their travels across the U.S. Jim also especially enjoyed the camaraderie of his Tuesday/Thursday coffee group.

Survivors in addition to his wife Rama include his cousin, Thomas A. Rogers and wife Claudia of Colorado Springs, CO and their children and families; brother-in-law, Keith Campbell; niece, Michelle Dawn Campbell; nephew, Dustin K. Campbell and wife Robin; great nieces, Brooklyn Swait and Ashlyn Swait; and great nephews, Cayden Campbell and Morgan Campbell, all of Nevada; along with many close friends.

A Memorial Service with Masonic Rites and Military Honors is scheduled at 1:30 Friday, December 4, 2015 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Sharon Freeman officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. just prior to the service also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at a later date in Iowa.

Those who wish may contribute in Jim’s memory to the Masonic Home in Columbia, MO or to the United Methodist Church in Nevada in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

William "Little Bill" Eugene Shaddox, Jr. age 45 of Creighton, Missouri departed this life Saturday, November 28, 2015 at his home.

Little Bill is survived by his mother, Phyllis Shaddox of Urich, Missouri; a son, Aaron Shaddox of Urich, Missouri; a daughter, Megan Shaddox of Sedalia, Missouri; a brother, Steven A. Shaddox of Urich, Missouri; two sisters, Kim Salmon of Urich, Missouri and Shelly Carver of Creighton, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the William E. Shaddox Memorial Fund.

Debra Sue Randolph, 50, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, November 22, 2015 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Oklahoma.

Debbie is survived by her husband Joe Randolph of the home; three sons, Josh Coltrin and his wife Stacey of Harrisonville, Missouri, Caleb Coltrin of Central City, Nebraska, and Jared Coltrin of Harrisonville, Missouri; a daughter, Aundrea Coltrin of Harrisonville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Aiden, Abby, Keighan, and Lian; her father, Henry Payne; her mother, JoAnn Miller; two brothers, Ronnie Payne of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and Carl Payne of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one sister, Terry Fuhr of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Church on the Rock, 5110 S. Brookhart, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2015 at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Debra Sue Randolph Memorial Fund and may be sent to the Hawthorn Bank, 100 Plaza Drive, Harrisonville, MO 64701.

Obituary - Patricia Ann Periman

Click Image To View Full Size Patricia Ann Periman, a woman who enjoyed life, concluded her life’s journey on November 27, 2015. Patricia was born in the month of June in 1933. Patricia enjoyed the small things in life: eating out, shopping, spending time with friends and family, going to church, and was proud of her work. She spent the majority of her life living in Nevada, Missouri near her three brothers, Charles, Jim, and Frank and two sisters, Joann and Mary, until she moved later in life to the mountains of North Carolina. Patricia is survived by her six children: Debbie, Sherry, Rick, Barry, Gary, and Tammy. She also cherished seeing and hearing about her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The friends and family of Ms. Patricia Ann Periman are invited to attend a Receiving of Friends on Monday, November 30th beginning at 5:00 PM and ending at 7:00 PM at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, December 1st at Ferry Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Adams. Interment will follow in the Moore Cemetery.














Clinton man killed in Cass County Fatality accident

Around 6:12 a.m. this morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with the Cass County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 2 Highway just East of S. Bennett Road in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when 2003 Chevrolet driven by 29 year old Thomas C. Hartley of Clinton, Missouri traveled off the roadway and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels.

Mr. Hartley was pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson County Medical Examiner A. Wilcoxen at 8:00 p.m.

The vehicle received extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Johnson Tow Company. This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 53 Fatality accident of 2015.
