Cass County man arrested in Bates County

On 12/27/15 around 6:27 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 32 year old Victor A. Borden of Peculiar, Missouri.

Mr. Borden was arrested for 1.) Driving while Intoxicated 2.) Expired Registration 3.) Failure to drive on the right half of the roadway 4.) Driving while suspend.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on a 12 hour hold.

Riverside Missouri man arrested in Bates County

On 12/26/15 around 12:36 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 34 year old Raynardo Hadley of Riverside, Missouri.

Mr. Hadley was arrested for 1.) Driving while intoxicated - Prior Offender 2.) No Seatbelt 3.) No insurance 4.) Speeding 26 mph over the speed limit.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on a 12 hour hold.

Obituary - Shirley Anne Klumpp

Click Image To View Full SizeShirley Anne Klumpp, age 80, of Nevada, MO passed from this life on December 25, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Raymore, MO after a brief illness. She was born March 9, 1935 in Nevada, the only child of Hubert and Joy Estelle (Sheets) Mynatt. On July 19, 1952 she was united in marriage to David Richard Klumpp and he preceded her in death on July 27, 2007. Together the couple became the parents of four children.

During her working years, Shirley was employed with the catalogue division of J.C. Penney, worked for five years at 3-M, then lastly sold real estate in the Nevada Vernon county area. She was an accomplished doll maker as well as collector, was a longtime member of the Nevada Elks Lodge, and was a MENSA member - - something that less than 2% of the population have achieved. In the past she and her husband had enjoyed square dancing with the Bushwhacker Square Dancers. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the local Storefront School project. Many Monday evenings were spent with The Oakes Neighborhood Community Friends for their wine time get-togethers.

Survivors include her children, Joy Smith and husband Daniel of Raymore; Kathy Schmalz and husband Robert of Olathe, KS; Rick Klumpp and wife Teresa of Richards; and Jennifer Morgan and husband Michael of Harrisonville; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and her uncle, Glenn Sheets of Nevada. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation for Shirley Anne Klumpp is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date next to her husband in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Pearl Darlene Compton, age 78, of Nevada, MO passed from this life at 7:20 a.m. December 25, 2015 at Nevada Nursing and Rehab in Nevada. She was born February 19, 1937 in Deerfield, MO the daughter of Aldric Ellis and Virginia Adeline (Harding) Pettibon. In 1956 she was united in marriage to Elbert Lee Compton in Deerfield and he preceded her in death on September 7, 1996. 

Darlene attended school in Deerfield in her early years then graduated from Nevada High School with the Class of 1955. The following year she married Mr. Compton and they were blessed with six children. For more than ten years Darlene owned and operated an in-home day care. She did work for a time at Nellie Don and Key Industries. She closely followed her children in all of their school activities through the years and cheered at many wrestling and football games in which her sons were involved. She was an outstanding mother and grandmother, a great cook, and someone who always made “everything right”. She made sure that her family never went without anything that they needed. They could always count on her. She loved flower gardening, the Kansas City Chiefs, and crocheting baby blankets for anyone who might enjoy one for their newest family member.

Survivors include her children, Elbert Lee Compton, Jr. and Cindy of Hudson, WI; Brenda Sumner and Foxie of Nevada; Rhonda Eador of Nevada; Michael Compton and Kyla of Walker; Carla Guss and Stewart of Fort Scott, KS; and Tresha Compton and John Martin of Nevada; twenty-two grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; siblings, Larry Pettibon and Tommie; Clifford (Bud) Pettibon and Donna; Lucy Garrett and Dick; Phyllis Stoddard and Ronnie; Vickie Wolford and Dick; and Lelia Shields; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Vivian; Glendyn (Bog); Albert; Kenneth; Paul; Helen; June and Anna Laura Noone.

Funeral services for Pearl Darlene Compton are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in the Moore Cemetery in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the funeral home.

Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the New Life Homeless Shelter in Nevada (affiliate of the Pine Street Baptist Church) in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Robert Ray Hoskins

Robert Ray Hoskins
Robert Ray Hoskins, age 78, of Nevada, MO passed away December 24, 2015 at his home. He was born September 5, 1937 in Horton, MO, the son of Clarence Taft and Stella Anna (Hoover) Hoskins. On May 29, 1974 he was united in marriage to Linda Marie (Greer) and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2015.

Bob attended school in Richards graduating with the Class of 1955 in an all boy class of four. After graduation he served our country in the United States Army. He then returned to Missouri after Honorable Discharge in New York. Through his life Bob farmed with his father and owned his own radiator shop in Nevada for a short time. For over thirty years he worked as a machinist for W.F. Norman retiring in 2014. When time allowed Bob enjoyed camping, deer hunting, fishing for spoonbill, and NASCAR. He was a very handy craftsman, able to build home additions, shelves, and frames when needed. But most of all he enjoyed his family and spending time with them – especially spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the loves of his life. Of special mention are his grandson Anthony's buddies - - - they were family to him.

Survivors include his son Ray Hoskins and wife Kathy of Nevada; sister, Wilma Burdick of Nevada; grandchildren, Anthony Hoskins and wife Lacie; Christina Hoskins, and Robert Hoskins; and great grandchildren, Eliza and Julyan. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Clarence Hoskins, Jr. and Neoma Jean Allen.

Funeral services for Robert Ray Hoskins will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, MO.

Obituary - Wilma Lorean Miller

Wilma Lorean Miller
Wilma Lorean Miller, age 76, of Peculiar, MO, formerly of Nevada, passed away December 23, 2015 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, KS. She was born March 18, 1939 in Walker, MO, the daughter of Lewis Charles and Minnie Lee (Cowan) Covington. On September 26, 1955 she was united in marriage to Gerald Joseph Miller and he survives of the home. Together their union was blessed with five sons. 

Through her life Wilma was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker to her family and for a period of about fifteen years ran an in-home daycare, a field in which she was well known and much beloved. She did work for a short time at Majestic Plastics in Grandview. On Easter Sunday 1956, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the Linwood Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. She was an accomplished piano player and vocalist singing in church and for many weddings and funerals. She loved flower gardening, sewing, crafts, and cooking. She collected all sorts of decorative mice through the years to fill her home. Most recently she had attended church at Greenwood Fellowship.

Survivors in addition to her husband include her five sons, Lyndell (Jerry) Miller and wife Sandy of Bolivar; Ronald Miller and wife Karen of Jefferson City; Dennis Miller and wife Denise of Florissant, CO; Gary Miller and wife Carolyn of Debrecen, Hungary; and Russell Miller and wife Krisha of Topeka, KS; sister, Lavonne Messick of Springfield; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, along with other extended family members. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Jerial Covington, Clark Covington, Orville Covington, Leverna McHenry, Florence Flynn, and Ruth O’Neal.

Funeral services for Wilma Lorean Miller are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Ferry Funeral Home Nevada with interment to follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Walker, MO. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service also at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
