Cass County Elementary students bring knives onto school bus

An elementary student was reportedly threatened with a knife on a school bus Wednesday afternoon.

The bus was transporting students home from Creekmoor Elementary School in Raymore when the incident occurred.

The Raymore and Belton police departments are investigating the incident, which ended with two knives being confiscated by a bus driver.

According to Lt. Brad Swanson with the Belton Police Department, an older student pointed a kitchen knife at a 6-year-old student.

Rich Hill Police Dept. to Participate in the Click It or Ticket Enforcement

City of Rich Hill-Police Dept. will be joining with statewide law enforcement May 23-June 5 for an aggressive “Click It or Ticket” mobilization to crack down on Missouri’s seat belt violations.

Six out of 10 people killed in Missouri traffic crashes are unbuckled. And even with all the advancement in automobile safety and education on the importance of seat belt use, Missouri seat belt use has remained relatively unchanged in the last six years and consistently below the national average.

Missouri has a 79 percent seat belt use, which is well below the national average of 87 percent. Teens and pick-up truck drivers are among those least likely to buckle up at 67 and 63 percent.

“Every day someone dies in a crash in Missouri because they weren’t buckled up,” said Jack Bearce, Chief of Police. “We will be pulling out all the stops to ensure motorists are buckling up.”

Seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.

Karen Elizabeth Hunter, age 46 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at her home in Butler.  She was born June 19, 1969 to Dorrance Allen and Jan S. Stegge Hunter in Independence, Missouri.

Karen is survived by her mother, Jan Price and husband Mike of Basehor, Kansas; her father, Dorrance Hunter and wife Lucy of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and three sons, Christopher Hunter of Basehor, Kansas, Thomas Garcia of Basehor, Kansas and Brian Tillery of Butler, Missouri.  Also surviving is her granddaughter Aileana Hunter; three brothers; Matthew, Justin and Adam Hunter and sister Tina Walker.

 Ermon Earl Cubbage

Ermon Earl Cubbage, 92, Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada. Ermon was born February 8, 1924 in Los Animas, CO to Elmer W. and Purita Caley (Craft) Cubbage. He was united in marriage to Margaret E. Neely on June 28, 1942 and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2003.

Ermon, along with his family, came to Vernon County December 31, 1937 at the age of 13. He attended Walker School until the 8th grade when he became a full time farmer. Ermon farmed and raised livestock all of his life. He served on the Walker School Board for a number of years. Ermon was also a member and an elder of the First Christian Church in Nevada.

Survivors include one daughter, Bobbie J. Hamersley and her husband Eddie, Walker; one son, Donald Cubbage and his wife Vernille, Nevada; six grandchildren, Cindy Winters, Scott Hamersley, Tracy Hamersley, Sheila Bryson, Donis Duncan, Davola Garrett; ten great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Margaret, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charley, and Emery, one sister, Maybel Norlin, and one granddaughter, Sherri Prewitt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
