Rollover accident in Vernon County injures two

Around 9:50am this morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route EE around 3 miles West of Eldorado Springs, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo driven by 40 year old Jennifer L. Cretel of Harwood, Missouri lost control on loose gravel and oil causing the vehicle to slide off the roadway and overturn.

Jennifer L. Cretel along with a passenger in her vehicle 20 year old Christopher J.Cretel also of Harwood, Missouri both sustained minor injuries in this accident and both were transported by ambulance to Cedar County Memorial Hospital in Eldorado Springs, Missouri.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the the scene by J & B Towing of Eldorado Springs, Missouri.

FLASHBACK: LaCygne power plant goes on line

Some 46 years ago, something began appearing in the west...

And a short time later, the LaCygne Generating Station went on line, providing power for thousands of people throughout the midwest. As construction began, it was a regular 'outing' for local folks to drive over and marvel at the construction of something huge that appeared in a once empty field.

In conjunction with the plant was the P&M Coal mining operation that covered a large area basically between Amsterdam and Amoret; where coal was removed and trucked directly to the LaCygne power station, allowing the plant to be as 'self sustaining' as possible. 

Both the plant and coal company provided many local jobs as well.

Over the years, P&M exhausted the local of supply of coal and it now comes by rail as seen regularly around Amsterdam every few days.

Janice Mainard 77 of Harrisonville, Missouri formerly of Garden City, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri surrounded by love and family.

Janice is survived by her husband Sidney Mainard of the home; two sons, Tim Mainard and his wife Francie of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Mark Mainard and his wife Candy of Raymore, Missouri; three daughters, Dolores Boney of Grandview, Missouri, Yvonne Beasley of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Jacqueline Laurila of Rogers, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one on the way; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri

The family will receive friends Monday, June 27, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Updated Obituary - William Marvin Reed

William (Bill) Marvin Reed, beloved husband of Bonnie Reed (Minton), loving father of Goldie Rogers (David), loving grandfather of Stacey Fox (Chris), loving great grandfather of Lydia and Cooper, dear son of the late William Foley and Maude Reed, uncle to Sharon Renard (Jeff), 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews. He had a bonus child Dr. Lon Tracy and family of Harrisonville.

Bill was born May 20, 1936 in Pleasanton, KS, where he was the oldest of 4 children. He went to be with Jesus on June 21, 2016. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family at Research Hospital at the age of 80. During the last week of his life he struggled with heart issues he couldn't overcome. Bill attended school in Metz, where he graduated on his birthday in 1954. He grew up in Bethel on a farm and remained there until he moved to Rich Hill in the mid-50's.

William married the love of his life, Bonnie on May 15, 1956. To this union a daughter was born, Goldie Lucille. Bill worked for Eastlands until the mid 1960's when he started Reed's Plumbing and Electric. He operated that for the next 40 years. You could easily say he as in nearly every house in town over the years or knew something about the house. You could always find Bill at the local coffee shop every morning. He also enjoyed going to auctions over the years. He ad a John Deere 435 tractor as well as a B that he loved to talk about. He thought the world was complete when his granddaughter Stacey arrived. Little did he know, years down the road his heart would be complete after the arrival of Lydia and Cooper. They were his world. You would always see him at school picking them up or taking them to practice or anywhere they wanted to go. He rarely missed a school function that involved the kids. He was always ready to go whether it was going to a concert with his granddaughter, a trip to the mall or taking the great grandkids to Branson. Something he held close to his heart was the Rich Hill 4th of July. In his 80 years, he only missed one 4th of July celebration. This year he will be in attendance, he will just be in a different seat amongst his friends in Heaven. We are certain the Pie Auction in Heaven has as many supporters as the one here.

William was on the Rich Hill fire department for 38 years. He was currently a deacon at the First Baptist Church where he served for over 20 years. If you knew him well you knew he always had a story. Whether it was picking on a girl in school or he could fill you in on the latest events around town.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 27th at 10 am at the Rich Hill First Baptist Church with burial in the Green Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 5 to 7 pm at the Heuser Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rich Hill 4th of July fund, c/o Heuser Funeral Home.

Update: Suspect located in Clinton

The Clinton Missouri Police Department would like to thank everyone for helping them locate this subject.

She was suspected of entering a local Bullseye store here in Clinton on Monday and walking out with the entire donation collection container for the Golden Valley Door of Hope.
