Update: Murder Suicide in Cass County

A man who shot and killed his estranged wife outside a Belton strip mall Friday morning was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Police identified the couple as Shawn Fuller of Kansas City and Tina Fuller of Raymore.

The incident began just before 11 a.m. at a strip mall in the 800 block of East North Avenue in Belton. A woman outside on a smoke break alerted police after she heard a gunshot and found Tina Fuller, 42, mortally wounded on the pavement of the parking lot.

The woman saw a man, later identified as Shawn Fuller, jump into a black SUV and speed away, said Sgt. Brad Swanson with the Belton Police Department.

Emergency crews arrived and rushed Tina Fuller to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Police did not know what prompted the shooting, but the couple had filed for divorce, Swanson said.

Grandview police later tried to stop Shawn Fuller as he headed north on U.S. 49, but he refused to pull over.

Witnesses later called the Kansas City Police Department when Shawn Fuller crashed his car near the intersection of 85th Street and Prospect Avenue. Witnesses watched him run away carrying a handgun.

Authorities, including a Kansas City police helicopter, started a pursuit. The chase ended in a wooded area near a small pond near the 3000 block of East 85th Street, where authorities found the body of Shawn Fuller.
